This position is located in the Core Operations Unit (COU), Information Technology Service (ITS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Infrastructure & Communications team leader, Chief COU, and under the overall guidance of the Chief of ITS. The incumbent will take a leading role in providing IP telephony and network infrastructure services to UNOV, UNODC and other Vienna-based organizations obtaining services from UNOVResponsibilities

  • Serves as team member in the planning, design, development, implementation, and support of IP telephony-based solutions. • Provides support for Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco IP phones, and Cisco voice gateways. • Manages campus network infrastructure (wired and wireless) and maintaining high level of performance and reliability. • Coordinates with other organisational units on issues that affect IP telephony and network infrastructure administration and configuration. • Plans, schedules, and implements IP telephony and network maintenance activities which include firmware upgrades, hardware replacement and network infrastructure changes. • Communicates effectively with internal and external audiences with varying levels of technical expertise. • Designs, implements, and audits complex configuration changes across a multi-vendor environment. • Coordinates with vendors to provide appropriate hardware to meet business requirements. • Keeps abreast of developments in technology both in the UN and in the industry in general. • Escalates problems/tasks to the appropriate parties in accordance with established procedure. • Monitors inventory levels of required equipment and initiates procurement when low thresholds are reached. Recommends acquisition of hardware, software, devices, tools, etc. to facilitate work. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification and training in Project Management is considered added advantage.Job – Specific QualificationNot available.Work ExperienceA minimum of seven (7) years of relevant progressively responsible experience in designing, implementing and managing IP telephony and corporate campus networks is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Knowledge and experience in operating Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco video infrastructure technologies, Cisco IP phones, and Cisco voice gateways are required. Experience supporting Cisco switching, routing, and wireless environments is required. Knowledge and experience in designing, implementing, and managing TCP/IP network infrastructure services such as DHCP, DNS, and NTP are desirable. Experience with Cisco Identity Services, Cisco DNA Center, and Cisco SDA is desirable.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required.
