Job Description:The National Food Institute (DTU Food) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) invites applications for a position as an assistant professor for research in food contact materials. The position is a part of DTU’s Tenure Track program and is anchored at the Research group for Analytical Food Chemistry.About us
The Research Group for Analytical Food Chemistry works to provide trust and transparency in the food chain by developing solutions for the future chemical food control, which can detect risks, document quality in food, food production and new ingredients.At DTU Food we aim to develop efficient, robust and scalable methods for food surveillance, monitoring and control, screening analyses to discover emerging risks, development of methods to determine migration from food contact materials and the use of accurate mass spectrometry for food control, screening and for metabolomics. We provide scientific advice to national and international authorities. We offer teaching at the BSc, BEng, MSc, PhD level, and lifelong learnings. We collaborate with academic, governmental and industrial stakeholders in interdisciplinary activities. The group is accredited by DANAK according to ISO 17025 and 17043, and hosts three European Union reference laboratories, and is a national reference laboratory for food contact material.Description of the position
We are looking for an assistant professor to join the Research group for Analytical Food Chemistry to foster our research in food contact materials (FCM). The major responsibility of the position is to conduct research in different types of FCMs, assess the food safety concerns arising from substances migrating from FCM to food following the national and EU guidelines, collaborate with relevant stakeholders for risk assessment and toxicological screening. The candidate is expected to provide scientific advice to national and international authorities in the area. Further, the candidate is expected to teach at the bachelor, masters, PhD, and lifelong learning courses. We expect that the candidate strengthens the group’s position in research collaboration across academic and non-academic sectors, and grant application within the research field.About you
The ideal candidate should have a PhD in agricultural sciences, analytical chemistry, food chemistry or related fields or possess an equivalent scientific background. Experience with research in testing food contact materials (FCM) using high-resolution mass spectrometry, method validation, performing targeted and non-targeted screening of FCM and data analysis, and migration testing of FCM is essential. Knowledge of EU regulations on FCMs, experience with analysing recycled packaging, and different types of materials is desirable. Expertise in developing and implementing analytical testing strategies for targeted and non-targeted analysis using mass spectrometry is also an advantage.Specifically, we welcome candidates with experience in the following areas:
- Solid experience working with FCM and non-target screening data handling
- Understanding of EU regulations on food contact materials (FCMs)
- Active participation in the network of FCMs at a European level
- Teaching and supervision of students in FCM area
- High-resolution LC-MS and GC-MS analysis of FCMs, handling of non-targeted LC-MS and GC-MS data
- Involvement in grant applications
- Collaboration with academic and industrial stakeholders
- Advanced writing and oral presentation skills in English
The applicant will contribute to the teaching programme in the Bachelor and master’s programmes at the National Food Institute.DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
