We are looking for a Lead UI/UX Designer to join our dynamic and innovative R&D team at Marine Systems business line at ABB Oy, Marine & Ports Division in Vuosaari, Helsinki.As a Lead Designer you will take hands-on responsibility for our product design, focusing on vessel bridge solutions. You will spend at least 50% of your time on your own practical design work within R&D projects, producing harmonized and consistent UX/UI designs and prototypes in Figma and holding our products to the highest standards of user experience. You will do this in collaboration with both internal R&D and product experts and our customers in the marine industry.You will be the key first point of contact for UX/UI design in R&D, spreading and advocating a human-centered design mindset, and improving our design process. You will also lead the work of other designers and maintain prioritized design work backlog that fits our planned R&D product deliveries.This position reports to Technology Manager, Local Systems Business Line.You will be mainly accountable for:
– Your own design work to produce high standard and consistent UI/UX design and prototypes
– Collaborating with product developers and playing an active role in design iterations (changes, refinements, and ongoing improvements)
– Building and maintaining a design system in product design, UI and UX design
– Conducting UX/UI concept development, usability testing and user research
– Leading and prioritizing the work of other UI/UX designers in your team so that deliverables are consistent and aligned with overall product plans
– Facilitating discussions with stakeholders and prioritizing and making decisions to ensure designs are fulfilling requirements and delivered on time
– Improving UI/UX team and cross-team processes and communication practicesQualifications for the role:
– Excellent skills in product design, UI/UX design, and visual design skills & work portfolio to back this up
– Extensive understanding of design field, methods, roles, and domains
– Ability to translate abstract ideas and requirements into production-ready design deliverables
– Excellent visual standards, high attention to detail and great documentation and communication skills
– Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Adobe CC and Rhinoceros
– Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and different platforms such as Azure Devops
– MA in Product Design or equivalent degree in other relevant design area
– Fluent English communication skills, both verbal and written
– Experience of task allocation and management of work of other designers considered as strong benefitMore about us:
