We are looking for an experienced and driven Data Centre Design Manager to play a key role in the design, planning, and execution of mission-critical data centre projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-quality, scalable data centre designs that support the digital transformation of businesses worldwide.As Data Centre Design Manager, you will oversee the complete design process, coordinating with multiple teams to deliver efficient, sustainable, and future-proof data centres. The ideal candidate will have a robust technical background in infrastructure design, a strong grasp of project management, and a commitment to excellence.Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead initial project scoping to align data centre designs with business requirements and capacity planning.
  • Develop and refine conceptual infrastructure designs, including layout plans, site selection, cooling, power distribution, and security requirements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for site locations, cost estimation, and project timelines.
  • Prepare design briefs to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Work closely with internal teams across engineering, operations, construction, and IT to gather input and align design objectives.
  • Act as the main liaison between architects, engineers, and construction teams, ensuring seamless communication and integration.
  • Manage relationships with external contractors, consultants, and vendors to maintain adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
  • Lead the creation of comprehensive design documents, technical specifications, and layout plans for all data centre components.
  • Develop detailed schematic designs and blueprints for mechanical, electrical, and structural elements of the data centre.
  • Incorporate redundancy and resilience into designs to meet industry standards, including Uptime Institute’s Tier levels and N+1 configurations.
  • Design facilities with scalability to support future growth, ensuring redundancy across cooling, power, and space.
  • Assess long-term needs for additional equipment, maintaining redundancy and ensuring continuity in MEP systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with local building codes, environmental regulations, and industry standards (e.g., TIA-942, ASHRAE).
  • Integrate safety features such as fire suppression systems, emergency egress routes, and seismic protections.
  • Stay current on regulations and certifications relevant to data centres (e.g., ISO 27001, LEED).
  • Collaborate with finance teams to establish project budgets and identify cost-saving measures.
  • Balance cost with performance, energy efficiency, and scalability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Promote sustainable design principles, such as energy-efficient cooling and renewable energy sources.
  • Explore new technologies to enhance data centre efficiency, security, and environmental impact.
  • Oversee construction activities to ensure adherence to design specifications and standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and quality control checks to ensure safety, technical standards, and project timelines are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree in Data Centre Management, Building Services Engineering, or Sustainable Design is advantageous.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Data Centre Design Professional, Accredited Tier Designer).
  • Relevant project management certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
  • Certification in Energy Efficiency or Green Building (e.g., LEED AP) is a plus.
  • 7-10 years of experience in data centre design, project management, or similar roles in critical infrastructure.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale data centre projects with a focus on power distribution, cooling, and infrastructure systems.
  • Practical experience with Tier classification of data centres.
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems (MV/LV), UPS, standby generators, and power management.
  • In-depth knowledge of cooling technologies and containment strategies.
  • Familiarity with fire suppression systems, physical security, and data centre automation tools.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and industry-specific standards (e.g., TIA-942, ASHRAE).
  • Budget Management: Ability to manage project budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Scheduling and Risk Management: Strong skills in scheduling, time management, and risk mitigation.
  • Leadership and Communication: Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving and Innovation: Analytical mindset with a strong focus on identifying issues and exploring new technologies.
