This position is located in the Grants Management and Field Support Unit (GMFSU), Accounts Section (AS), Financial Resources Management Service (FRMS), Division for Management (DM, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will report to the Supervisor (Accountant) of the unit. For more information on UNOV and UNODC, please visit the websites at www.unov.org and www.unodc.orgResponsibilitiesThe incumbent will perform the following duties: •Record and reconcile more complex accounting transactions. •Reconcile more complex bank accounts in various currencies. •Assist in the processing of payments to governments and vendors for good and services. This includes, amongst other things, calculating, inputting, and checking payments for correctness and communicating discrepancies to supervisors. •Extract details of income, expenditure, assets and liability from accounting system in order to analyze and verify accuracy and validity. •Draft/prepare letters, memoranda and/or faxes to donors, various offices, departments and overseas offices. •Respond to queries from staff members and third parties. •Maintain records of voluntary contributions to the Funds in accordance with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS). •Prepare reports to the donor in accordance with the funding agreements. •Monitor funding sources for projects funded from voluntary contributions to ensure compliance to the terms of funding agreements. •Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. •Assist with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. •Perform other work-related duties as may be required.Competencies

EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent.Job – Specific QualificationCertificate/coursework/training in accounting is desirable.Work ExperienceA minimum of five years of experience in accounting, finance or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Of the minimum years needed, two years in accounting functions is required. Experience in Microsoft Excel and Word are required. IPSAS/IFRS experience is required. Relevant work experience within the United Nations Common System or similar international organization is desirable. Experience in grant management accounting is desirable. Experience with finance modules of Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) systems is desirable. Experience with SAP or Umoja system is desirable.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required.
