We look forward to receiving your application!Work assignmentsThe purpose of the position as an Assistant Professor is to provide the opportunity for the individual to develop independence as a researcher and to build qualifications both scientifically and pedagogically in order to meet the requirements for eligibility for a position as a senior lecturer.The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Integrated Computer Systems (AIICS) primarily conducts research, as well as undergraduate and doctoral education in artificial intelligence.As an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at AIICS, you will teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and supervise students in various programs within the Faculty of Engineering. The role includes course design and course responsibility. You are expected to primarily conduct research in artificial intelligence, especially large AI models and the combination of reasoning and machine learning. The research language is mainly English.You will be active in the research community, participate in department activities such as seminars and workshops, take part in research projects, communicate results through scientific publications, and contribute to attracting external research funding.You will actively contribute to the development of the university. Collaboration in education occurs by planning, organizing, and delivering quality education in cooperation with external stakeholders. Collaboration in research occurs through spreading, making accessible, and utilizing research.The position may also involve administrative duties, such as coordinating research projects, collaboration efforts, or supporting the department’s work. We would appreciate your participation in and interest in leadership roles.We are looking for enthusiastic and outgoing individuals to join our interdisciplinary research team. You should enjoy working as part of a team and be willing to learn from your colleagues and, in turn, share your knowledge and experience with them. You will also be encouraged to contribute to the education of junior team members and collaborate with other team members on various projects.Your work will include following the developments nationally and internationally within your field and other societal developments relevant to your work.You are flexible and capable of moving between various pedagogical and scientific contexts. You share knowledge and contribute to the professional development of the team, collegial working methods, and social cohesion. We see it as essential for you to be present and active in order to perform your tasks optimally and enjoy the work environment.QualificationsWe are looking for candidates with a PhD or equivalent scientific competence. We are primarily seeking individuals who have obtained their PhD within the last five years.For this position, particular emphasis will be placed on scientific excellence, followed by pedagogical competence, and thirdly other relevant skills that will be assessed as equally valuable.In terms of scientific competence, the following will be assessed:

  • Significant research achievements in AI/ML, particularly in learning related to large AI models, and documented independence and excellence in research are required for the position. Publications in leading AI/ML conferences such as AAAI, ICLR, ICML, IJCAI, and NeurIPS are also required.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English are required.
  • Experience in securing competitive research grants is highly desirable.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in Swedish are advantageous.
  • Documented competence in collaboration within education and research is also desirable.

In terms of pedagogical competence, the following will be assessed:

  • Experience teaching AI/ML at both undergraduate and graduate levels is an asset.
  • Experience with commissioned education in collaboration with businesses and public organizations is an asset.

As teaching and research are conducted in both English and Swedish, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach and conduct research in English, and it is desirable that you are able to teach and conduct research in Swedish within two years.The workplaceYou will be employed in the Reasoning and Learning Lab (ReaL), at the at Linköping University.Linköping University is an AI research excellence center with strong and broad research and education in AI both from a technical and interdisciplinary perspective. Coordinator of the EU-project TrustLLM developing trustworthy and factual language models. Host of the largest basic research program in Sweden Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) as well as the Wallenberg AI and Transformative Technologies Education Development Program (WASP-ED). Host of the National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden (NAISS) including an Nvidia SuperPOD (Berzelius).The Division of Artificial Intelligence and Integrated Computer Systems is highly regarded internationally for its research in many areas of artificial intelligence with a history dating back to the 70s. The Reasoning and Learning Lab mainly conducts research in the areas of machine learning, machine reasoning and their intersection with applications in, for example, autonomous systems, multi agent systems, and industrial use cases.The employmentThe length of employment for this position is 6 years, full time.Starting date by agreement.An assistant professor may be employed until further notice, for a minimum period of four years and a maximum period of six years, as determined by the institution of higher education before the employment begins. The employment may be renewed, by a maximum period of two years, if, as a consequence of sick absence, parental leave, or other special circumstances of the assistant professor, additional time is necessary in order to achieve the purpose of the employment.An assistant professor shall, after application, be promoted to associate professor if he/she is qualified for employment as associate professor and has been assessed following a test to be suitable for such employment according to the grounds for assessment that the University has determined.For more information on eligibility requirements, assessment criteria and recruitment procedures for teachers, see Linköping University’s rules of appointment.
