About the positionOslo University Hospital (OUH) is Norway’s largest hospital with over 20 000 employees and a budget of close to 30 billion NOK. It is a local hospital for parts of Oslo’s population. It has a regional function for the inhabitants in the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority, and it also has a large number of national functions. The Hospital is responsible for the majority of medical research and education of health personnel in Norway. OUH is the only internationally accredited Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) in Norway.The University of Oslo (UiO) is Norway’s largest research and educational institution with 28 000 students and 7 000 employees. Professional breadth and internationally recognized research environments make UiO an important contributor to society. The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1814 and is Norway’s oldest medical faculty. The Faculty works for progressive education, research and dissemination for the patients’ and society’s best interests. It is organized into three basic units and has approximately 1 500 employees (about 1 000 work years) and about 2 000 students.A permanent position as Senior Consultant in Palliative Medicine is available at the Section of Palliative Care, Department of oncology, Cancer Clinic, Oslo University Hospital. The position is affiliated with a part time position as Professor SKO 1013 and Associate professor SKO 1011 (20 % position) in Medicine (Palliative Medicine) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). The Department of oncology is a department within the Cancer Clinic (KRE). In addition to oncology, KRE includes the fields of hematology, six specialties within cancer surgery, medical physics, clinical service, and two research institutes.The clinic’s activity at the Radium Hospital has recently moved into a new clinic and proton building in September 2024. This involves a new organization for the operations at the Radium Hospital based on local management as a principle. This means a new organization at the departmental level, and the department’s operations today include oncological specialty sections, radiotherapy, cell therapy, palliative care, and clinical cancer research. Radiotherapy is performed in close collaboration with the Department of Medical Physics.The hospital has 16 linear accelerators and two brachytherapy treatment units. This involves more than 7,000 treatment series and more than 100,000 radiotherapy sessions annually. From the first quarter of 2025, we will start proton therapy. Proton therapy will be a multi-regional function shared with Health Bergen. The medical cancer treatment covers all types of treatments and includes CAR-T, high-dose treatment with autologous stem cell support, other continuous medical treatments, and extensive outpatient activities.The department has a broad scientific production, publishing 120-150 scientific articles annually in recent years. The cancer research environment at OUS supports translational research in line with the CCC concept and has close collaboration with the Cancer Research Institute. There is also extensive clinical research and patient-oriented research in the department. There is a separate section for clinical cancer research and competence development, which includes a trial unit for early testing of treatments.The department is entering a period of significant changes. We will start using the new hospital at the Radium Hospital, begin proton therapy, and it has now been decided that the main part of oncology at OUS will be consolidated at the Radium Hospital during the first quarter of 2025. We have increasing engagement in Europe, and the department will participate in major EU initiatives related to the Cancer Mission and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.For the main position:Qualifications: Applicants must have a relevant medical background within palliative medicine. Research competence and experience will be particularly emphasized. Teaching experience and the ability to contribute to the education and training of healthcare professionals will also be considered an advantage.Personal qualities: The applicant must have the prerequisites to develop a unit that is leading in its field. This means that the applicant must be motivating and unifying, can think holistically, and show integrity.For the part-time position: The part-time position and the main position are linked together, and it is a condition that the position holder takes care of both functions.The appointee will lead and initiate research and research supervision, participate in teaching students and PhD candidates, and undertake examination work and administrative tasks according to the applicable rules. The faculty is responsible for teaching in the professional study programs in medicine/dentistry and the faculty’s bachelor’s and master’s programs. In addition, the faculty is responsible for research education. The position holder is obliged to perform their teaching according to the needs of the faculty/institute at any given time within the guiding time frames set for the position. Applicants who cannot document basic pedagogical competence at the time of appointment must acquire this within two years of appointment.The part-time position is a 20% position, and the salary is within the same framework as Professor SKO 1013 and Associate professor SKO 1011 on the state salary scale.The assessment basis for the part-time position is the applicants’ scientific, other professional, pedagogical, and dissemination qualifications, qualifications for leadership and administration, and personal qualifications.
