Overview:Post Title:Senior Medical ScientistPost Status:PermanentDepartment:Histology/Histopathology LaboratoryLocation:Beaumont Hospital & Affiliated SitesReports to:Chief Medical Scientist or other nominated Manager.Salary:Appointment will be made on the Senior Medical Scientist Scale (€66,667 – €88,021) at a point in line with Government pay policyHours of work:Full-Time 35 hours per weekClosing Date:12 Noon on 22/07/2025Please note the hospital reserves the right to close the competition early should a substantial number of applications be received.The position requires a strategic approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and technological development and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.Responsibilities:Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• To perform his/her duties under the general direction of the Chief Medical Scientist or as delegated.
• To perform all aspects of technical work to the highest standard.
• To supervise and provide guidance and support to medical scientists and medical laboratory assistants in the performance of their duties.
• To organise the technical programme so that work patterns are efficiently maintained.
• To carry out routine inspections of laboratory equipment in his/her charge and to ensure that the equipment is properly maintained and kept in serviceable condition.
• To collaborate with the Chief Medical Scientist in the maintenance of efficiency and the introduction of new methods in the laboratory.
• To assist in implementing measures for the safety, health and welfare of all the staff.
• To assist in the training of student medical scientists, on call personnel, junior medical staff and visiting workers as required.
• To assist in maintaining the ISO15189 accredited status of the department.
• To represent the Chief Medical Scientist at meetings when required.
• To attend courses and meetings as appropriate to maintain up to date knowledge.
• To perform any other duties as may be appropriate to the grade. As per MF-GEN-0098 contained in staff members training folder.

Qualifications:Mandatory: * Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc(a) Candidates for appointment must:(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.AND(ii) Possess one of the following NFQ Level 9 post graduate qualifications orequivalent qualification at minimum Level 9 validated by the Academy ofClinical Science and Laboratory Medicine;

• MSc Clinical Laboratory Science, Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT).
• MSc Clinical Laboratory Science, Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin).
• MSc Clinical Chemistry, University of Dublin, Trinity College (TCD).
• MSc Biomedical Science, University of Ulster (UU)
• MSc Biomedical Science, Cork Institute of Technology (CIT)/University College Cork (UCC).
• MSc Biomedical Science, Munster Technological University (MTU)/University College Cork (UCC).
• MSc Molecular Pathology, Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT)/University of Dublin, Trinity College (TCD).

OR(iii) An equivalent qualification at minimum Level 9 validated by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM).OR(iv) Possess Fellowship of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine awarded before July 2018.OR(v) Have attained the Fellowship examination of the Institute of Biomedical Science(Awarded prior to 1999).AND(vi) Possess four years full time clinical experience (or an aggregate of four years full time clinical experience) as a medical scientist in a clinical diagnostic laboratory since qualifying as a medical scientist.AND(vii) Demonstrate evidence of Continuous Professional Development.AND(viii) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.AND(ix) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.ANDHave experience and knowledge of Quality Management Systems, as this position will also serve as the Departmental Quality Officer.

• Annual registration
