Job description

As Interim In‑House Banking Counsel in Leeds, you’ll be the legal expert supporting key finance transactions, from structuring lending, equity, and guarantees to embedding a robust legal risk framework. You’ll partner with internal and external stakeholders, including public sector and legal teams, to manage risk, governance, and litigation across the wider business.The Interim In‑House Banking Counsel will be:

  • Leading legal risk management and framework enhancements in banking, finance, governance.
  • Providing expertise across general lending, project/asset finance, debt/equity transactions.
  • Reviewing bespoke infrastructure deals involving debt, equity, guarantees.
  • Advising senior stakeholders and Investment/Engagement Committees on legal risk and governance.
  • Managing litigation and claims, steering resolution aligned with risk appetite.
  • Leading key legal projects, embedding controls across activity streams.
  • Engaging and supervising external counsel and legal panels.
  • Developing precedent documentation with banking teams.
  • Designing and delivering specialist legal training across the organisation.
  • Supervising junior paralegals to ensure quality legal outputs.

Immediate start6 month contract potential to turn permanentThe Interim In-House Banking Counsel should have:

  • 6+ PQE, qualified solicitor or barrister within banking.
  • Deep expertise in: general lending, asset/project finance, equity, debt restructuring.
  • Desirable additional experience: regulatory compliance, claims, employment, public law, data/FOI.
  • Experience supervising junior colleagues.
