Job title:
Photonic Quantum Sensing Researcher
Company
Imec
Job description
Photonic Quantum Sensing ResearcherWhat you will doAs a Photonic Quantum Sensing Researcher, you will play a key role in developing next-generation quantum sensors based on photonic technologies, with applications spanning high-tech industries, space, and defense. Your work will focus on the design, optimization, and implementation of integrated quantum sensor architectures. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will explore innovative, energy-efficient approaches to precision sensing in a compact form factor.Your responsibilities will include:
- Technology Roadmapping: Contribute to imec’s strategic research initiatives by defining the evolution of next-generation quantum sensors.
- Quantum Sensor Architecture Design: Lead the conceptualization and design of quantum sensors based on photonic integrated circuits (PICs), enabling high-precision, energy efficient, and compact sensing solutions.
- System Modeling: Develop and refine photonic system models incorporating key quantum mechanisms. Use simulation tools (Lumerical, Synopsys, Matlab, Python, …) to validate architectural feasibility and performance.
- Experimental Validation: Conduct laboratory testing of fabricated PICs connected with off-the-shelf components to validate the proposed concepts.
- Team-based Collaboration: Work closely with experts in sensing, quantum technologies, and photonic design to define system concepts and specifications. Support the development of PIC layouts.
- Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Prepare technical documentation and reports for internal and external stakeholders. Contribute to patent filings or publish research findings.
- Proposal Development: Explore emerging applications and contribute to the development of next-generation quantum sensing concepts. Contribute to writing proposals for new research opportunities and collaborations.
- Mentorship and Supervision: Coach and mentor employees and graduate students as needed.
