Associate Professor in pharmacologyAbout the positionThe Department of Pharmacy at the University of Oslo is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, and innovative researcher with strong collaborative and educational skills for a full-time Associate Professor position in the Section for Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Biosciences.The Department fosters a strong interdisciplinary environment that encompasses the central areas of the pharmaceutical field. The Department emphasizes collaboration with healthcare providers, regulatory authorities, and pharmaceutical industries, including startup companies.The Section for Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Biosciences is one of the three sections at the Department of Pharmacy and is comprised of strong research groups specializing in basic pharmacology, pharmacotherapy, clinical pharmacy, and pharmaceutical microbiology. The Section offers a vibrant and dynamic academic environment, ideal for ambitious researchers. We are currently seeking an associate professor in the fields of basic pharmacology, and pharmacotherapy or clinical pharmacy to strengthen one or more of the research groups in pharmacology ( , , ).Job descriptionThe pharmaceutical biotech industry, university hospital, and academia cluster in the Oslo area is expanding, with Oslo Science City and the upcoming Life Science building playing crucial roles in this growth. The Department of Pharmacy will relocate to this new building in 2026, offering exceptional opportunities for groundbreaking research and innovation. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the building is equipped to break down traditional barriers between foundational sciences like biomedicine, pharmacy, and chemistry. By incorporating computational science, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence, it will create a pioneering environment for research, education, and innovation.The ideal candidate will significantly contribute to the scientific community in the new Life Science building by forging the future of pharmaceutical science at a high international level, specifically by strengthening the research within basic pharmacology, and pharmacotherapy or clinical pharmacy. Documented interdisciplinary and international cooperation is highly desirable.Teaching is an important part of the position, and the overall workload of teaching and research is typically divided equally between teaching and research. The successful candidate should be able to teach at all levels of the five-years study program in pharmacy, including master- and PhD levels. The position will entail teaching in various areas of pharmacology, including basic pharmacology, pharmacotherapy, clinical pharmacy and clinical drug trials to students at all levels, including lectures, lab/group teaching, and supervision.Additional responsibilities include leading and initiating research-based teaching, supervising researchers, participating in examination-related duties, and undertaking administrative tasks as required. The successful candidate may also be assigned other teaching and administrative responsibilities by the Department or the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.Qualification requirementsRequired qualifications
The successful candidate who at the time of appointment cannot document sufficient teaching qualifications (minimum formal requirement is a 200-hour pedagogical program) will be required to obtain such qualifications within a two-year period.Desired qualifications

In the planned life science building at the University of Oslo, closer collaboration with health enterprises, local government and the business sector will enhance quality and relevance in research and education of the future labour force. The building will be the heart of the first innovation district in Norway – Oslo Science City. The Department of Pharmacy will move into the new Life Science building in 2026.
