The Department of Molecular Biosciences, The Wenner-Gren Institute (MBW) conducts experimental basic research in the fields of molecular cell biology, integrative biology and infection and immunobiology. The research at MBW builds on modern and advanced methodology and the research environment has a strong international profile. The department offers education at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral levels. MBW is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University with just over 30 research groups and about 180 employees, of which about 50 are doctoral students.
For more information about us, please visit:MBW has a long tradition in research and education in Radiation Biology, a tradition that the department intends to preserve and develop. The successful candidate is expected to lead a Radiation Biology research group and conduct basic research aimed at understanding the molecular effects of radiation on cells and organisms. A number of radiation sources are available on site that allow studying effects of dose rate and radiation quality. We seek an outstanding scientist who can effectively integrate into the existing research community. The Faculty of Science boasts strong research in Cell and Molecular Biology across multiple departments, with many ongoing projects closely related to cancer biology. Medical radiation physics is also a strong area at our university.Stockholm University, Karolinska Institutet, and the Royal Institute of Technology are finalizing plans to establish a joint Center in Medical Radiation Science, located near the Karolinska University Hospital. The Center will include existing research groups from the three universities, supplemented by new staff and a state-of-the-art research infrastructure for radiation therapy. Our department anticipates playing a key role within the Center, contributing expertise in radiation biology. The Center will undoubtedly offer many opportunities for interdisciplinary and translational collaboration.SubjectRadiation biology with focus on molecular mechanisms.Subject descriptionRadiation biology covers the study of molecular effects of radiation on cells and organisms and could include studies of DNA damage and repair, genome instability and cancer.Main responsibilitiesResearch, teaching and supervision.Qualification requirementsIn order to qualify for the position as associate professor, the applicant must have demonstrated good teaching skills and have a doctoral degree, or equivalent research expertise, of relevance to the subject area and the main responsibilities of the position.All teaching positions at Stockholm University require the ability to collaborate and the general ability and suitability to perform one’s duties.Teaching and learning in higher educationCompleted training in teaching and learning in higher education, or equivalent knowledge, is an advantage. An applicant who has not completed at least 15 credits of teaching and learning in higher education and is not considered to have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge should undergo such training within the first two years of employment.Assessment criteriaIn the appointment process, special attention will be given to research and teaching skills. The assessment of research skills will focus primarily on merits within the subject area of the
position.The following will also be considered:

• the ability to develop and lead activities and staff
• administrative skills

In the case of otherwise similar qualifications, the following criteria will be used to distinguish between candidates:
