Join the Department of Space, Earth and Environment with its dynamic research environment and strong industry ties. We are looking for a new faculty member (open rank) in the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Division to advance research in remote sensing instrumentation or information retrieval, and to educate the next generation of engineers and scientists.About us

Our research drives innovation in instrumentation and retrieval algorithms, and tackle climate change, air pollution, natural hazards, and land/ocean transformation while delivering solutions for environmental sustainability.Your role

  • Conduct research on satellite remote sensing, instrumentation or information retrieval
  • Collaborate with leading external partners and engage with stakeholders across academia, industry and society
  • Supervise and mentor students at all academic levels
  • Disseminate your research in scientific publications and conferences
  • Contribute to teaching and curriculum development at the bachelor’s and master’s level

Associate Professor (Tenured Position)

  • A permanent faculty position for an established researcher

Assistant Professor (Tenure Track)

You are an independent and ambitious researcher capable of performing research at the international forefront. The ideal candidate will have the vision and capability to shape future satellite missions and space-based environmental observation systems. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research will complement and strengthen our existing expertise in microwave radiometry, synthetic aperture radar, and optical spectroscopy, while bringing new capabilities in areas such as innovative sensor development, retrieval algorithms, novel applications, and other forward-looking areas. Experience of working with international programs for satellite missions is a merit.Associate Professor:

  • A PhD degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Remote Sensing, Earth Sciences, or a closely related field
  • Strong research and teaching track record
  • Experience as assistant or main supervisor of PhD students
  • Pedagogical training, including a course in research supervision (if pedagogical requirements are unmet, candidates may complete training within two years of appointment)

Assistant Professor:

  • A PhD degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Remote Sensing, Earth Sciences or a closely related field (*within last 7 years, with exceptions for leave).
  • Demonstrated research potential
  • Supervision of BSc/MSc students
  • Merits: Teaching experience, pedagogical training. PhD student co-supervision.

Both positions require strong verbal and written English skills. If Swedish is not your native language, we expect you to acquire sufficient knowledge to be able to communicate and teach in Swedish within a few years. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
