Founded in 2003, the is a research university focused on tomorrow’s major societal challenges, including digital transformation, medicine and health, and sustainable and societal development. With over 1’000 doctoral candidates among 7’500 students as well as 300 professors, the University distinguishes itself with its international and multilingual character, an interdisciplinary approach, and a personalised learning environment.The Luxembourg Centre of European Law (LCEL) was established in 2024 as the successor to the Max Planck Institute for Procedural Law. It aspires to become one of the foremost centres for the academic study of European law. It works closely with the Department of Law of the University of Luxembourg. The LCEL is an inter-disciplinary centre and engages in scholarly research in the field of European law, widely understood, including, the governance of the European Union, EU and comparative constitutional law, the relationship between EU and international law, the external relations of the EU, the law of the internal market, and EU regulation. EU fundamental rights, sustainability and green agenda, digital regulation and EU security are among its research priority areas. The fundamental aim of the LCEL is to produce outstanding scholarship that is impactful and addresses contemporary issues of concern to society. Strategically situated near key EU institutions in Luxembourg, the LCEL leverages its location to foster impactful research and collaboration on European legal matters.As part of its plans for expansion, the LCEL intends to make an appointment at the level of Associate Professor.Your roleIt is expected that the successful candidate will conduct outstanding research in the areas of EU external relations, EU constitutional law, and EU governance; will assist in the development of interdisciplinary studies in relation to European policy; will apply for external research funding; and undertake such other academic tasks and administrative duties as assigned by the LCEL Director.The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of European Union law provided by the Department of Law; and/or to courses related to European integration in other departments of the University, as necessary. She/he will also be expected to undertake supervision of doctoral and post-doctoral candidates, as necessary.An established record of publications in the above fields, evidence of willingness to engage in interdisciplinary research, and evidence of capacity to secure and manage external research finding are prerequisites for the successful candidate.Your profile
