We invite applicants on all levels of seniority, i.e. assistant, associate, and full professor. The proposed starting date is August 2025 or soon thereafter. The position is limited to one year.Job description
The candidate should have a relevant background in game design, game development, or related fields, both in academia and practice. They should have an interest in teaching postgraduate students based on practical experience in the games industry or related fields. The ideal candidate will combine interest and experience in research, teaching, and game-making, and has familiarity with both practices of game design and technical aspects of game development. Practical experience can come from any relevant area, including (but not limited to) game development (AAA, mobile, indie, or serious games), gamification, artistic practice, game technology development, game software development, etc.The position includes a teaching obligation in at least two practice-oriented, project-based courses in the MSc in Games programme. The candidate will be expected to teach introductory and advanced topics in the areas specified above within the well-established framework of our Games education, and supervise student projects. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to contribute their own research agenda on a play-related topic to the highly interdisciplinary research environment of the Center for Digital Play. The candidate will be expected to actively participate in Center events, pursue individual or co-authored research, and participate in dissemination activities, funding applications, and innovation initiatives. Applicants should provide a vision document outlining how they wish to contribute to a diverse learning environment and interdisciplinary research efforts surrounding digital play practices. Event organization experience and personal connections to the games industry are a plus, but not required.General information

The Center for Digital Play (CDP) is an interdisciplinary research unit that develops novel theories and methods for the study of play and games in the 21st Century. From game-trained Artificial Intelligence, to social communities created around videogames, gamification, esports, or game engines as artistic tools, digital play is an intrinsic yet understudied phenomenon in digital societies. The CDPs ambition is to define what it means to study play in digital societies from a multidisciplinary perspective. Its purpose is to develop novel methods and theories needed to deal with novel phenomena, and to be a reference center in the present and future of play and game studies.Working at the IT University

Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Taxation’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and job structure for academic staff at Universities.Application

  • For candidates applying for the Associate professor or the Full Professor position: documentation of a) received observation and feedback on teaching, b) pedagogical experience and training courses as a teacher, c) a formal written assessment of teaching competence and d) a record of teaching and supervision within at least one more of the teaching areas listed for the position
  • For candidates applying for the Associate professor or the Full Professor position: a record of contributing to the goals of the institutions in which the candidate has worked, for example participation in committees, etc.
  • For candidates applying for the Full Professor position: A short plan outlining and arguing for the intended research and teaching initiatives and engagements (2-3 A4 pages)
  • For candidates applying for the Full Professor position: A memorandum stating your most important scientific work relevant to the position and your contribution to such work (2-3 A4 pages)
  • For candidates applying for the Full Professor position: Information indicating experience and results in Ph.D. supervision, research management, fundraising, and research cooperation.

Qualification Requirements
The applicant must hold a PhD-degree in a relevant field (game production, game design, design theory, etc.). Ideal candidates have published in relevant fields, some game-production experience, and teaching experience.Recognizing the diversity of traditions, methods and delivery format in the range of fields included in this call, the publications or other documented research contributions should be submitted in the format relevant for the applicant’s field.
