What we do at AMGEN matters in people’s lives.Competitive Intelligence ManagerLIVEWHAT YOU WILL DOThe Commercial Intelligence team at Amgen is key business partner that analyzes the competitive landscape, performs research, and provides strategic insight to the business. In this vital role you will lead intelligence gathering activities for US and Global marketing teams to support pipeline obesity assets. You will develop productive relationships with Global and Regional teams to define business problems and develop integrated analysis plans based on standard methodologies.The individual will need to be a strategic thought partner to key collaborators across disease area, brand, corporate, and other cross-functional teams supporting the corresponding US business units (OBU/IBBU/CBU).You, as our Competitive Intelligence Manager will have a deep understanding of obesity competition in support of metabolic business units. You will synthesize information from multiple sources to develop strategic insights and point of view on key competitive developments, implications to Amgen and actions Amgen must take. This critical role will deal in a matrix manager environment, reporting to the Executive Director of Commercial Analytics Obesity and US & Global Support Lead at the ACCP.Other responsibilities include:Work in a highly cross functional manner and manage changing priorities across several key customers.Apply structured problem solving to collect, analyze and report CI, incorporating primary and secondary data sources to generate meaningful insights.Articulate and educate customers on the relevant impact of changing market dynamics to their business from a CI perspective.Organize and facilitate strategic exercises & competitive simulations to generate competitive insights and company plans.Coordinate and facilitate CI collection efforts at major medical conferences/congresses.Manage a network of primary data sources, including vendors and Amgen employees, to enable effective project delivery.Assess the reliability of CI research findings, maintaining high standards for accuracy, relevance, and quality in deliverables at all times and communicate level of evidence to key partners.Present on a regular basis in-depth analyses and summaries of results, interpreting and communicating results with recommendations to key stakeholders.Work to grow competitive intelligence/strategy to support other functions in the organization.Abide by and strictly enforce Amgen’s CI Legal and Ethical Guidelines with internal colleagues and agencies.Some travel (15-20%) required.WINWHAT WE EXPECT OF YOUOur ideal candidate is a strategic team player with a focus on structure and critical thinking. He/she is problem solving, result oriented and has time and process management skills.Proven experience and skills needed:Doctorate degree and 2 years of competitive intelligence/consulting/equity research/industry experienceMaster’s degree and 5 years of competitive intelligence/consulting/equity research/industry experienceBachelor’s degree and 7 years of competitive intelligence/consulting/equity research/industry experienceUniversity Degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, healthcare or related field.Fluency in English, both in written and oral communication.Strong Excel and PowerPoint knowledgePreferred Requirements:Advanced degree (MS/MBA/PhD) with a focus on life sciences and businessExperience with previous competitive intelligence role through agency and/or biopharma experienceExperience in biopharma industryRelevant experience in Oncology/Obesity/Inflammation via prior project work, disease area knowledge, marketing/sales experience, etc.Prior experience in strategy/management consulting in the biopharma industry preferably through a lead rolePrior experience as an equity research analyst within the biopharma industryConsistent track record of influencing key business decisions through thoughtful insights and recommendationsDemonstrated ability to think strategically and analyze data to support critical business decisionsExcellent oral, written, and presentation skills—able to explain complex concepts clearly to a variety of audiencesEvident project management skills—able to manage multiple, simultaneous projects and data sourcesDemonstrated analytical skills—understands the advantages and limits of different analytical approaches and studiesAbility to work collaboratively in team-based environmentStrong understanding of the latest developments and trends in the Inflammation space, key competitive dynamics and unmet medical needsUnderstanding of at least one other functional area in CD&A (forecasting, market research, and secondary analytics)Experience in insights generation for the biopharmaceutical (or other healthcare) industriesTHRIVEWHAT YOU CAN EXPECT OF USVast opportunities to learn, develop, and move up and across our global organization.Diverse and inclusive community of belonging, where colleagues are empowered to bring ideas to the table, take risks, and act.Generous Amgen Total Rewards Plan comprising healthcare, finance, wealth and career benefits.Flexible work arrangements.APPLY NOWIn our quest to serve patients above all else, Amgen is the first to imagine, and the last to doubt.
