Consultant in Children and Young People’s Gender Service (South West) Substantive, full-time post (part time and secondments welcome)University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for a substantive consultant(s) based within the Paediatric Department at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant(s) will join a multi-disciplinary team delivering a new Children and Young People’s Gender Service (South West).This role is suited to a paediatrician with expertise in developmental and community paediatrics and/or adolescent health. The consultant is primarily responsible for delivering a high-quality clinical service, as well as contributing to the leadership and strategic development of the service.The Cass Review has recommended that staff should maintain a broad clinical perspective by working across related NHS services in order to embed the care of children and young people with gender-related distress within a broader child and adolescent health context. In order to facilitate this, we encourage part-time applications from staff already working within other NHS or community paediatric services. We can also work with successful candidates applying for full-time roles to agree a job plan that includes a mix of gender service activity and activity in another clinical or allied area within UHBW (for example safeguarding, general paediatrics, medical education).Main duties of the job1. To contribute to an interdisciplinary team with input to biopsychosocial assessments of children and young people referred into the CYPGS for the purposes of formulation to guide recommendations for next steps within the service2. To contribute to broader service development with a focus on patient safety.3. To develop and deliver a paediatric intervention clinic within one of the intervention domains to include:Assessment of the CYP current physical health and wellbeing including pubertal stagingTo provide tailored recommendations, in collaboration with nursing colleagues, AHPs and others with the CYP and family/carers to optimise function and wellbeing across physical domains (including nutrition, growth, menses, hygiene, contraception, bone health, vaccination, onward referral(s) via local area)To provide a developmental and physical health overview, contributing to MDT decision making around eligibility for GnRH trialTo provide a development and physical health overview that considers and highlights future health that may include advice regarding contraception, sexual health and screening.4. To seek guidance from Paediatric Endocrinologist in relation to relevant and emerging themes and share learning with wider multi-professional team5.
