Your missionAs a Design Engineer within Tractebel’s Water product line, you will play a key role in the execution of complex marine and civil infrastructure projects. You will take the technical lead in the design and calculation of steel structures such as lock gates, jetties, flood protection barriers, bridges, and other hydraulic works. Your contribution will span from feasibility studies to detailed design, always aligned with Belgian and European standards. You’ll collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment, sharing knowledge and supporting junior engineers to deliver creative and cost-effective solutions.Your key responsibilitiesTake the lead in the design and structural calculation of steel structures from concept to execution.Prepare all design stages (preliminary, basic, tender, detailed) for marine and civil infrastructure projects.Apply Belgian and European standards, codes, and internal guidelines in your work.Propose innovative and feasible structural solutions, balancing technical requirements with budget constraints.Coordinate and coach junior engineers and CAD designers within project teams.Review and validate drafting work produced by the CAD team.Use advanced structural analysis software (e.g., SCIA Engineer, Ansys) for modeling and verification.Ensure technical excellence and knowledge sharing in the domain of steel and marine structures.Stay up to date with technical standards, industry developments, and emerging technologies.We would love to hear from people withA passion for designing complex steel and marine infrastructure.A solution-oriented mindset and the ability to work on challenging technical problems.The motivation to grow as a technical expert while supporting and mentoring junior team members.A collaborative approach and strong communication skills to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.Your qualificationsMaster’s degree in Structural Engineering, with a focus on Construction Design, Dredging and Offshore Engineering, or Marine Engineering.At least 5 years of technical experience in designing steel structures and infrastructure such as bridges, port infrastructure, lock gates, barrages, jetties, etc.Solid experience with complex 3D structures and steel element calculations.Good understanding of current construction techniques.Thorough knowledge of relevant design standards and codes (ISO, EC, NEN, EAU, SB250, SB260…).Proficient in SCIA Engineer or equivalent structural analysis software.Skilled in standard office tools (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing).Who you areYou are a creative, analytical, and reliable engineer with a passion for marine and civil structures. You enjoy solving complex engineering challenges and strive for high-quality outcomes. You take pride in your technical expertise, while also guiding and inspiring younger colleagues. You communicate clearly and work well in team environments.
