In this job you will work in close collaboration with all our business areas and Metsä Group’s corporate affairs and sustainability team. If you are inspired by both data analysis and utilizing the results for making an impact please check out this opportunity.What will you get to do?Your tasks will include creating, running and developing models on carbon and LCA-related data especially in cases where group-wide viewpoint or future scenarios are needed. You act as a project manager in group-wide development projects producing and exploiting carbon and LCA-related data for the purpose of strategic decision-making, advocacy and interpretation of the impacts of new legislation as well as for building business on sustainability data. In addition, you will also coordinate and develop competencies related to the use of tools and external service partners in the area. As a co-host of the Metsä Group’s internal Carbon Group, you facilitate internal cooperation and unified ways of working between Metsä Group business areas. You will also participate in external committees and task forces working with carbon and LCA related topics on national and European level.You will be a member of Metsä Group’s Group R&D team, led by Katariina Kemppainen, SVP, Group R&D. Key contacts in your work will include Sustainability and R&D experts from Metsä Group’s business areas and people from other Group Services’ functions such as Strategy, Advocacy, Environment and Sourcing. You will network widely within Metsä Group to source data and support decision-making.Location for this position is Metsä Group’s headquarters in Espoo, Finland.What are we expecting of you?To succeed in this position you need to have relevant, at least 5 years of experience after Master’s degree from processing sustainability-related industry data. Applicants with 10-20 years of experience, or even more, are also welcomed. Suitable backgrounds for the applicant include corporate or SME sustainability functions, consultancies and potentially also research and technology organizations and universities. We are looking for a person with strong understanding of life-cycle assessment methodologies and tools such as LCA Experts/GaBi, SimaPro and OpenLCA and practical experience with them. We also expect systems modelling experience with tools like Aspen Plus, Balas, Dymola or OpenModelica. You need the have the ability to both frame the problem or opportunity and the ability to solve it by modelling. Experience on forest industry related data, projects requiring the management of big and challenging datasets and European carbon-related regulation is seen as an advantage.You have a Master’s degree from a technical field or natural sciences. PhD degree is regarded beneficial but not mandatory.Proven project management experience and skills, and an interest and ability to plan and handle large and complex analysis and modelling tasks are a prerequisite to succeed in the position.We expect you to have strong networking and communication skills (oral and written) and an ability to work constructively and efficiently in a multi-stakeholder environment. We appreciate a curious, quick-learning and analytical mindset and a proactive and positive way of working. Growth-mindset is required, as is the ability to understand complex systems and the value of data in business. Fluent English is a prerequisite for this task.
