We look forward to receiving your application!The Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences is one of the university’s largest departments, with operations mainly in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Our aim is to engage in medical and biomedical education and research of high international standing. At undergraduate level the department is responsible for most of the medical program, the speech and language pathology program and the biomedical program. For more information about the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, please follow:We are looking for a PhD student in Medical Science.Your work assignmentsYou will work on the epigenetics of inherited and sporadic cancers, with a focus on T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, as part of Colm Nestor’s research group. You will be part of an active and international research group where you are expected to present your work at both local and international meetings.As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.Your qualificationsYou have graduated at Master’s level in Biology /Experimental and Medical bioscience/ Genetics or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses Biology /Experimental and Medical bioscience/ Genetics. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in cell culture work with human cancer cells, particularly T-ALL cell lines.
  • Strong background in DNA, RNA and protein extraction from human T-ALL cells.
  • Experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as flow cytometry, Western Blot, PCR, and sequencing is required.
  • Experience with 5mc/5hmc dot blot assays.
  • Previous experience in cytotoxicity analysis using flow cytometry and AlamarBlue.
  • Experience in enzymatic whole-genome methylation sequencing, including library preparation and sequencing.
  • Experience with CRISPR-Cas9 in T-ALL cell lines, flow cytometric sorting of single clones, and Sanger sequencing analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of DNA methylation, demethylation and T-ALL biology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in both English and Swedish are required.

The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out.
