We look forward to receiving your application!The research group of Antonio Lentini is looking for a PhD student in Medical Science focusing on development of tools to understand tumour evolutionary trajectories.Your work assignmentsCancer evolves over time and space, with subclones often acquiring new mutations that drive tumour growth and resistance to treatment. In this project, you will leverage large-scale single-cell genomics to uncover the clonal and mutational features that underpin tumour evolution. By integrating data from primary patient samples and experimental models, you will predict evolutionary trajectories and identify novel targets for precision medicine, aiming to enhance treatment responses and improve long-term survival in cancer patients. You will have the opportunity to learn and develop novel computational workflows for cutting edge single-cell genomics technologies and contribute to the advancement of precision medicine in oncology.We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a passion for advancing scientific knowledge. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data analysis, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.Your qualificationsYou have graduated at Master’s level in bioinformatics, computational biology, data analysis, computer science, biostatistics, biological engineering, applied mathematics/physics or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses, in natural sciences, life sciences, or engineering. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.Applicants must be skilled in both oral and written communication in English and be able to work well in collaboration with others.Proven experience with Unix command-line interface (CLI) and Bash scripting and proficiency in a higher-order programming language like Python or R for high-throughput sequencing data analysis and visualisation is highly meritorious. Knowledge in statistics, AI/ML, single-cell genomics and/or phylogenetics is further meriting.Personal characteristics, such as a high level of creativity, curiosity, thoroughness, and/or a structured approach to problem-solving are essential.Your workplaceYou will work in the (CNB) at . The department carries out research as well as undergraduate and postgraduate education within Medical Science.You will also be part of the SciLifeLab & Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS), a 12-year initiative aimed at recruiting and training the next generation of data-driven life scientists and to create globally leading computational and data science capabilities in life science in Sweden. Through this program, you will participate in the national DDLS Research School, joining a dynamic community of PhDs and Postdocs from both academia and industry. You will also have access to extensive computational training and resources, including high-performance computing (HPC) clusters. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available atThe employment has a duration of four years’ full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out.
