About the RoleThe Stateful Platform team builds Uber’s infrastructure to deploy and run all database engines, and other stateful systems such as MySQL, Redis, ZooKeeper, Kafka, and ETCD for all of Uber worldwide. Our mission is to run all Uber’s storage solutions at scale, with high availability, low cost, and a high level of automation. All changes are automated such as doing kernel upgrades, handling host failures, or expanding storage clusters.Our team comprises a balanced combination of junior and senior engineers with a broad range of experiences across the industry. We value ideas over hierarchy, getting things done, and having a measurable impact on the business. We work closely with our partner teams in San Francisco, Palo Alto, Seattle, New York, Amsterdam and Bangalore.See this engineering blog post if you want to learn more about what we build:What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus PointsAs the Engineering Manager within the Stateful Platform, you will lead a talented team of engineers and collaborate closely with platform users across Uber. Your responsibilities will include:Define the strategy and vision, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Build and lead a high-performing team, hiring, mentoring, and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
Deliver on the mission of creating a unified, declarative, and goal-state-driven platform by driving product development and implementation.
Partner with cross-functional teams, including product, design, and other engineering groups, to deliver seamless platform integrations.
Establish and track KPIs to measure platform effectiveness and user satisfaction.
Advocate for platform reliability, cost efficiency, and self-service operations to enhance user experience and scale.—- Basic Qualifications —-A background in software engineering with hands-on experience in distributed systems, infrastructure, or platform development.
3+ years of experience managing engineering teams, with a proven track record of delivering on technical projects.
Proficiency in setting team goals, managing performance, and coaching engineers to achieve excellence.—- Preferred Qualifications —-Expertise in Kubernetes (K8s) and its ecosystem, including the API server and related components.
Experience in building developer platforms or tools at scale in diverse environments.
Familiarity with declarative APIs and concepts such as goal-state-driven architecture.
Ability to align engineering roadmaps with company-wide objectives and ensure incremental value delivery.
