At Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), we’re looking for a strategic and people-focused Engineering Projects Manager to lead the delivery of critical fleet engineering projects across all GTR platforms. This is a high-impact leadership role, responsible for managing a team of Engineering Project Leads and establishing a centralised Engineering PMO capability that drives quality, compliance, and innovation.You’ll play a key role in the HE&AM leadership team, supporting the delivery of GTR’s engineering strategy and acting as a vital interface between Fleet, Engineering, and wider business functions.Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Engineering Project Leads to deliver end-to-end, solutions-based engineering projects aligned with Fleet and HE&AM priorities.
- Ensure quality and service excellence in project delivery, meeting agreed scope, timelines, and governance standards.
- Drive the development and continuous improvement of engineering governance processes, including SRD tracking, workload prioritisation, and PMO integration with wider GTR change frameworks.
- Lead GTR’s materials and obsolescence management strategy and processes.
- Ensure all change management activities are compliant with relevant legislation, standards, and internal procedures.
- Oversee team workload, delivery performance, and line management responsibilities including development, support & attendance, and leave planning.
- Support fleet incident management through participation in the on-call rota.
- Collaborate with other Heads of Department across Engineering and the wider GTR organisation to ensure alignment and strategic delivery.
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Engineering or a related discipline; project management certification (e.g., APM, PRINCE2, PMP) is desirable along with experience in continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proven experience in leading engineering project teams within a complex, safety-critical environment-ideally rail, transport, or infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of Engineering PMO governance, engineering change control, and materials lifecycle management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.

- The interview will consist of a combination of both competency and technical questions.
