At the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern and the University Hospital (Inselspital) Bern, aFoundation Professorship (Extraordinary Professorship) for Interdisciplinary and Interprofessional Rehabilitationis to be filled by agreement.The University of Bern is pleased to announce, in collaboration with the Foundation for Medical Follow-up Treatment, Rehabilitation and Prevention BRH (BRH Foundation), the establishment of the Professorship for Interdisciplinary and Interprofessional Rehabilitation, which is located in the Medical Department of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine.With Support from the BRH Foundation
The professorship is made possible by the generous support of the BRH Foundation, which is providing an annual contribution for at least 15 years and a one-time start-up funding to advance interdisciplinary rehabilitation in research and teaching. The goal is to establish a beacon in rehabilitation and to promote the national and international visibility of this field.Tasks of the Professorship
The successful candidate will establish an innovative research center in the field of musculoskeletal, internal medicine-oncological, cardiac, and pulmonary rehabilitation. Promoting interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration is a central component of the role. This includes close cooperation within the University of Bern, with the Bern University of Applied Sciences, and with external clinical and academic partners. Furthermore, the development and implementation of study programs in the field of rehabilitation are among the core tasks, particularly focusing on integrative and cross-professional treatment concepts as well as prehabilitation. Another goal is the establishment of a teaching and research center for rehabilitation with international impact. Additionally, digital tools and medical informatics should be effectively utilized to improve rehabilitation outcomes.Requirements for Applicants
The ideal candidate has a medical background with solid experience in rehabilitation and demonstrates proven research experience in this field as well as in relevant adjacent disciplines. A habilitation or an equivalent research qualification is required. They bring experience in interprofessional teaching and collaboration, particularly in promoting synergies between different specialist areas, and possess the ability to successfully acquire third-party funding and lead innovative research projects. Excellent communication and leadership skills are crucial to efficiently and sustainably lead diverse interdisciplinary and Interprofessional teams.Profound knowledge in the use of digital technologies and medical informatics in rehabilitation, particularly in the development and implementation of digital solutions to support patient care, is advantageous, as is the ability to directly link scientific findings with clinical practice and continuously improve the quality of care. Good international networking and a demonstrably successful publication record are expected.The ability to connect and integrate various specialist groups to promote innovative approaches in rehabilitation is as important as experience in writing sophisticated scientific texts in German and English. A confident and professional demeanor in collaborating with experts, decision-makers, and external partners is required.Furthermore, a willingness for continuous professional development and flexible adaptation to the demands of a changing patient population is expected. Experience in curriculum development and the design of modern teaching formats that meet the needs of students and practice is an additional advantage. A deep understanding of the relevance of diversity and inclusion in rehabilitation and their active promotion in research, teaching, and practice is also required, as is knowledge in quality assurance and evaluation of rehabilitative processes and projects.Framework Conditions and Perspectives
The professorship is endowed with an employment level of 80-100% and offers access to state-of-the-art infrastructure at the Berner Reha Zentrum in Heiligenschwendi and on the Insel Campus.
