The individual will provide strong medical leadership in developing strategic, executable plans for the Midsize Markets region which includes: Switzerland, Benelux, The Nordics, Austria, Israel, Greece & Cyprus, Poland, Czech Republic & Slovakia, Romania .Headcount of 68 FTE’sThis experienced people leader will be accountable for ensuring strategic and operational excellence of the MA function within the region and maintaining the best-in-class MA Organization that works effectively cross-functionally. The individual will be responsible for partnering with Country Medical Directors in developing the TA Plans of Action (ACE-POA) medical strategy, communications, and medical expert engagement important to support Gilead therapeutics areas, approved products and pipeline.The Head of MM Medical Affairs will partner closely with colleagues in Global Medical Affairs (GMA), research, development, commercial, corporate strategy, public affairs and government affairs, legal/compliance, and senior management at the country and at the corporate level in-order to develop and execute short and long-term strategies for Gilead products.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Manages the MM Medical Affairs Teams across all Therapeutic Areas.
• Accountable for the overall function and governance of MM MA, working closely with ACE MA LT as well as ensuring alignment with the Development and Commercial leadership and organizations
• Oversee the development of medical strategies and the POA for Gilead’s products, including pipeline products in the ACE region
• Ensure that the MM MA vision and strategies are developed and aligned with the Integrated Strategic Plans (ISP) .
• Allocate, develop, and deploy resources within corporate budget guidelines.
• Provide inspirational leadership to the MM MA team by creating an environment of mutual respect and shared goals, clear responsibilities, talent development/engagement/retention plans, and continuous improvement mindset
• Overall responsibility for ensuring appropriate resources are available to deliver the MM MA strategies
• Oversee team development, coach and support the CMD’s to ensure competency to develop and execute the ACE-MA POA

• Demonstrate functional leadership through scientific expertise and in-depth understanding (scientific and medical) of relevant disease states, products, competitors, marketplace, related medical areas and regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

• An advanced MD, Pharm.D, or PhD educational degree from an accredited university is required, with solid Medical Affairs leadership experience, preferably in a similar role, in either pharma or large biotech companies
• Strong leadership and people-management skills, with a proven track-record of building and retaining high -performing teams.
• Solid understanding of the ACE region regulations that govern Medical Affairs activities as well as detailed knowledge of medical practices and treatment landscape
• Ability to manage competing priorities and projects, requiring an excellent ability to prioritize and manage expectations by demonstrating the ability to focus on POAs and while analyzing complex issues and drive to timely, thoughtful and realistic solutions and recommendations
• Must thrive in a fast-paced innovative environment while remaining agile, adaptive, proactive, resourceful and efficient
• Effective interpersonal skills commensurate with the need to effectively manage teams in a matrix environment and ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders, within and beyond their team, including with management and external stakeholders
• Demonstrable cross-cultural awareness of the ACE region and possess strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and integrity, represent the company’s high ethics, moral behaviour, and professionalism
• Must play and active role and have a passion for getting things done, as well as the ability to learn quickly
• Demonstrated ability to maintain scientific knowledge and credibility, to effectively communicate an discuss scientific information with both internal and external stakeholders
• Willingness/ability to travel up to 30% in and out of region as needed
