We are now recruiting enthusiastic and motivated Health Care Support Workers to become part of our wider health care team, which provides high standards of care to our patients.This vacancy is for positions within the Emergency Department (ED)You will attend a robust clinical induction, and comprehensive practical based programme, to gain the skills and knowledge to provide quality care to our patients. We will provide you with the tools to gain your care certificate if you have not already completed it.We welcome applications for those seeking both full and part-time employment, the minimum contract we can offer is 24.5 hours per week.Main duties of the jobThe Health Care Support Worker works as part of the ward/department team under the supervision of registered nurse/midwife and:Participates in the delivery of patient careContributes towards ward/department organisationSupport registered nurses in the provision of a safe and caring environmentComplete National Care CertificateThe post is advertised as a Band 3 role subject to the following:successfully completing the care certification within the six month probationary period of employment, during which you will be paid Band 2orproviding a copy of your completed care certificate which has been reviewed during the recruitment process and determined as meeting the accepted standardUpon successful completion (or accepted evidence) of the Care Certification and completion of the probationary period of employment, you will be promoted to NHS AFC Band 3Failure to complete the Care Certification within this timeframe may result in termination of employmentAbout usThe Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop’s Stortford, and St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping.We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. • Support qualified nurses in the implementation of programmes of care within the limits of the HCSWs knowledge and competence
• Provide comfort, reassurance and support to patients and/or their carers if anxious or distressed
• Assist with essential patient care, e.g. making beds, sorting clean linen, etc
• Assist patients to become as independent as possible by giving the appropriate level of support as delegated and under supervision
• Maintain patients personal and oral hygiene, e.g. help with dressing/ undressing, giving bed baths, mouth and skin care, assisting with pressure area care
• Escort patients to other departments
