Industrial PhD student – Circular battery systemsWhile a large focus is put on developing suitable batteries with increasing range and same performance levels as the established vehicle fleet, end-of-life opportunities have been less in focus from the design perspective.This PhD project focuses on the development of a methodological approach to support designing battery packs for several lifecycle phases to keep products, components, and materials at their highest utility over time and ensuring adequate recycling at end-of-life. The industrial participation consists of battery pack developers and dismantlers.You will be part of the group for Energy Storage Thermal Design, one of the design groups responsible for developing the new battery packs. The team consist of design engineers, layout engineers, material coordinators as well as a scrum master.
Develop new products to meet commercial specifications. Your AssignmentAs an industrial PhD student you are expected to drive research, study university courses and spread your findings at Scania to development projects.

• Baseline: State-of-the-art battery design for heavy-duty industry
• Best practice review: Best practices circular design and legal requirements on battery design (batteries regulation)
• Concept development: Concept development battery pack design to fulfil legal requirements and enable other circular practices prior to recycling
• Synthesis: Compile results from previous 3 work packages

Your academic supervisor will be Farazee Mohammad Abdullah Asif, Assistant Professor in Circular Manufacturing Systems (CMS) at KTH. Supervisor at Scania will be Michael Lieder, Business Developer Circular Economy, PhD and Carl Göransson, Senior Technical Advisor battery development.Your profileWe place a high value on personal drive, good communication and a team spirit. • You have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, or similar.
• Work experience in the automotive industry as a design engineer or from a relevant cross-functional area is considered a merit.
• Professional fluency in English is a requirement as you are expected to publish results in journals and present at international conferences.
