This position is located in the Core Operations Unit (COU), Information Technology Service (ITS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Chief, COU, and under the overall guidance of the Chief of ITS.ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Information Technology Assistant (Network Engineer) will be responsible for the following specific duties: • Design, install, configure, and deploy network architecture including LAN, WAN, and Wi-Fi technologies. • Deploy routing protocols and technologies such as BGP and OSPF, and network operating systems, including Cisco IOS and NX-OS. • Coordinate with other organisational units and clients on issues that affect network infrastructure administration and configuration. • Design, implement and audit complex configuration changes across a multi-vendor environment. • Coordinate with vendors to provide appropriate hardware to meet business requirements. • Escalate problems/tasks to the appropriate parties in accordance with established procedure. • Perform administration, technical support, and monitoring of ICT security services. • Perform administration and monitoring of network infrastructure services such as DHCP, DNS and NTP.Maintain the smooth operation of the network infrastructure. • Maintain system documentation. • Keep abreast of developments in technology both in the UN and in the industry in general. • Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assist with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Perform other duties as assigned.Competencies

EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent is required. Certification in Network Engineering (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+) or equivalent is desirable. Certification in Information Security (e.g., CISM, CISSP) or equivalent is desirable.Job – Specific QualificationNot available.Work ExperienceA minimum of seven (7) years of relevant progressively responsible experience in designing, implementing and managing corporate campus networks, including extensive experience with LAN/WAN and Wi-Fi technologies is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in implementing and managing routing protocols and technologies such as BGP and OSPF is required; Hands-on experience with Cisco switching and routing systems, and network operating systems, including Cisco IOS and NX-OS is required; Experience in implementing and managing ICT security solutions such as Cisco Identity Services and Checkpoint firewall security solution is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. Knowledge and experience in designing, implementing, and managing TCP/IP network infrastructure services such as DHCP, DNS and NTP is desirableLanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency, is required.
