ukactive exists to improve the health of the nation by getting more people, more active, more often. We champion the physical activity sector by supporting our members – from gyms and leisure centres to suppliers, tech providers, and charities – through insight, policy, and campaigns that unlock the potential of an active nation. ukactive has three primary roles: to campaign for an active nation, to facilitate big impact partnerships and to provide world class services to our members and partners. Marketing forms the backbone of keeping ukactive’s profile visible as well as looking to grow our presence across the physical activity sector.The Marketing Manager will lead the delivery of marketing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and growth across ukactive’s key campaigns, services, and events. They will oversee ukactive’s Graphic Designer & Social Content Creator and work closely with stakeholders across the business to shape communications and ensure our members and partners feel informed, inspired, and supported.
This is a hands-on, varied role that requires creative thinking, excellent project management, and a strong understanding of integrated marketing in a B2B and membership-focused environment.Specific tasks and responsibilities
(these include, but are not limited to:)

  • Develop and deliver strategic marketing plans to support membership growth, events sales and awareness (such as the ukactive Awards), campaigns (including National Fitness Day), and commercial partnerships
  • Maintain the ukactive vision and business plan across all internal and external channels
  • Line-manage and mentor ukactive’s Graphic Designer & Social Content Creator to ensure high-quality output and professional development
  • Plan and oversee multi-channel campaigns, including email, social media, digital advertising, content, and print
  • Brief and direct photographers and videographers for ukactive events and campaigns to ensure high-quality, on-brand visual content
  • Manage ukactive’s website, ensuring content is up to date, user-focused, and aligned with campaign activity
  • Lead the launch and ongoing marketing of new products, services, and initiatives to drive engagement and uptake
  • Monitor and manage ukactive’s social media channels, collaborating with the wider team to maintain a consistent and responsive online presence
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Events, Membership, Communications, IT and Policy to align marketing outputs with business objectives and ensure cohesive messaging
  • Liaise with all internal departments to ensure key areas of work are properly supported by the marketing function
  • Lead on the creation of campaign content and collateral, working with ukactive’s Graphic Designer & Social Content Creator and external agencies where required
  • Manage marketing budgets and report on performance metrics, ROI and campaign success
  • Champion brand consistency and tone of voice across all communications
  • Stay informed of sector trends, competitor activity, and new marketing technologies
  • Carry out market research and regular review of day-to-day marketing to ensure maximum impact
  • Expect to copywrite where necessary and check organisation-created content
  • Work with Membership and IT departments to integrate and maximise use of Salesforce across for integrated membership management and engagement
  • Where relevant, work with external partners/agencies to deliver collaborative work

PERSON SPECIFICATIONSkills & ExperienceEssential

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in marketing, with at least 1 year in a managerial or team leadership role
  • Proven ability to deliver successful integrated campaigns
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Proficient in Salesforce and Pardot
  • Proficient in WordPress
  • Skilled in using data and analytics to inform strategy and drive performance
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • IT literate with expertise in Microsoft Office
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Demonstrates a pro-active ‘can do’ attitude

Desirable

  • Passion for health, wellbeing, or the physical activity sector
  • CIM qualification or equivalent
  • Experience in B2B or membership marketing
  • Understanding of the not-for-profit landscape
