Job DescriptionYour responsibilitiesAre you a Mechanical Engineer eager to work on innovative alignment solutions in a world-class research environment? As part of the at CERN, you will play a key role in the development, deployment, and commissioning of precision for the new 150 MeV AWAKE electron beamline.You will join the and work within the Hight precision alignment team to support their mission of designing, implementing, operating, and analysing 3D alignment solutions with micrometric accuracy for accelerator components, transfer lines, and experimental areas, including the Machine Detector Interface geodetic link.As a Mechanical Engineer, you will:

  • Develop and qualify mechanical alignment solutions, ensuring precision for beamline components.
  • Lead the procurement and reception of 17 adjustment platform units.
  • Oversee deployment, installation, and commissioning of the platforms in the tunnel environment.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, technicians, and scientists to optimize alignment performance.

Your profileSkillsRequired:

  • Experience in designing mechanical structures and machines.
  • Experience in preparing manufacturing drawings and related documentation, with knowledge of ISO GD&T.
  • Experience in the procurement, assembly, and commissioning of mechanical systems.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of design and application of micrometric alignment systems would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of motion mechatronics would be an asset.

Language skills:

  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a

. * You have a professional background in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and have either:

  • a Master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
  • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Additional InformationJob closing date: 29.04.2025 at 23:59h (midnight) CET.Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.Working hours: 40 hours per weekTarget start date: 01-June-2025This position involves:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Use of certain mobile work equipment or equipment used for lifting loads (lifting equipment, bridge cranes, aerial work platforms, etc.) requiring a driving authorization.
  • Operations on electrical installations or in their vicinity (over 1000 Volt AC or 1500 Volt DC) requiring a specific authorization.
