Overview:Post Title:Medical Scientist Histo / NeuropathologyPost Status:PermanentDepartment:Laboratory – Histo / NeuropathologyLocation:Beaumont Hospital & Affiliated SitesReports to:Chief Medical Scientist / Senior Medical Scientist in chargeSalary:Appointment will be made on the Medical Scientist Scale (€43,892 – €71,552, LSI1 €72,938) at a point in line with Government pay policyHours of work:Full-Time, 35 hours per weekClosing Date:12 Noon on 28/03/2025Please note the hospital reserves the right to close the competition early should a substantial number of applications be received.Responsibilities:Principal Duties & Responsibilities:1 To participate in the laboratory working roster encompassing working hours and luncheon intervals.2 Reports to the Chief Medical Scientist in the Histo/neuropathology Department and/or report on a day to day basis to the designated Senior Medical Scientist in charge.3 To perform the Histo/neuropathology work to the highest professional standards as determined by the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist.4 Participate in training staff and students as required.5 Ensure in co-operation with the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist /designated senior staff, appropriate compliance with International and National Guidelines and Standards for the provision of Histo/neuropathology Lab service and actively participate in Internal and External Quality Control.6 Actively participate in and promote continuing education and research activities consistent with the post.7 Co-operate in evaluating equipment, consumables and research projects.8 Observe the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient or Hospital information.9 The chosen candidate will participate in ensuring that effective safety procedures are in place to comply with Health and Safety at Work Act.10 Assist and co-operate with the Laboratory Management team in developing procedures to be followed in preventing and managing accidents occurring in the work area.11 To prepare and stain specimens for histological evaluation, according to standard operational procedures.12 To perform such other duties appropriate to the office as may be assigned to him/her by an officer designated by the Board in consultation with the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist/Senior in charge. As per MF-GEN-0098 contained in staff members training folder.13 To comply with the requirements of ISO15189 during all activities carried out in the department.The job description is an outline of the post as it is currently perceived by the hospital and will be subject to review and amendment. Qualifications:Selection Criteria:Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post.Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.Mandatory: * Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc(a) Candidates for appointment must:(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.OR(ii) Applicants who satisfy the conditions set out in Section 91 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005, (see note 1 below*), must submit proof of application for registration with the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.The acceptable proof is correspondence from the Medical Scientists RegistrationBoard at CORU confirming their application for registration as a Section 91 applicant was received by the 30th March 2021.AND(iii) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.AND(iv) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued. Applicable to Section 38 applicants only).
(i) On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on the MedicalScientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board atCORU.AND(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
