We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Medical Secretary to join our admin team to provide support to the doctors and health professionals and Management Team. The post holder will need to be competent in audio typing and word processing and will require excellent communication skills.The candidate would ideally be qualified or have some knowledge of being a medical secretary in a GP Surgery, but the practice would provide training to the right candidate.Main duties of the jobTo provide an efficient audio, copy typing and word processing service for GPs and Health Professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, minutes, memorandums, etc. in an accurate and quality mannerLiaise with secondary and primary care colleagues with regards to waiting times and correspondencePrepare invoices for private work.Send death certificates/cremation paperwork to the coroners office/undertakers.To make appointments and bookings as required.To establish and maintain filing and administrative systems so that written or computer information is easily accessible and secure.To provide flexible cover for members of the secretarial team during periods of sickness and annual leaveTo monitor Practice emailsLiaise with PCSETo register permanent, temporary and deduct patients as requiredParticipate in audit where appropriateKeep up to date with changes in referrals processes, limited clinical benefits, with regards to secondary and private careAction workflow and tasksAction workflow from our websiteTo retrieve medical records and assist the completion of medical/insurance records.File patient records and correspondence in patient medical recordsTo receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queriesAbout usProbus Surgery is a well-established Primary Care business and are proud to offer the highest standard of patient healthcare. Probus is our main surgery and we do hold clinics at The Merlin Centre and Tregony. We currently have 8 GPs and a great practice team which consists of Paramedics, Nurses, HCAs, Pharmacists, Dispensers, Receptionists and Admin.   • Experience of working in primary care
  • Experience of working in a GP practice

QualificationsEssential

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths

Desirable

  • AMSPAR medical secretarial or equivalent qualification
  • RSA stage 2 typing plus audio typing and text processing or equivalent qualification
  • Experience of working within a GP practice
  • Knowledge of SystmOne clinical system
  • Knowledge of Lexacom
  • High knowledge of medical terminology to accurately type out letters, medical reports, and other documents
  • Computer literacy, including a working knowledge of relevant programs, such as Word and Excel
