As a metal polisher, you are responsible for finishing and refining the surface of various metal components to achieve a specified appearance, texture, or functionality. Your main tasks include manual and machine-assisted polishing, grinding, and buffing of metal surfaces, using tools such as polishing machines, belt grinders, rotary tools, and abrasive materials depending on the type of metal and the desired result.The work is typically carried out in several stagesstarting with coarse grinding to remove surface defects, welds, or casting seams, followed by progressively finer abrasives and polishing compounds to produce a smooth, shiny, or matte surface finish. You will be working with materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper, and sometimes specialty alloys.The job may involve standing for long periods, exposure to dust, noise, and vibration, so safety procedures and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are essential. Attention to detail, patience, and precision are key traits, as the visual and tactile quality of the finished product often plays a major role in customer satisfaction.You may work independently or as part of a production team, often within industries such as manufacturing, metal fabrication, interior design, automotive, medical device production, or artistic metalwork.Typical Duties:Grinding and sanding metal surfaces to remove imperfectionsPolishing and buffing metal parts to achieve required finishOperating various hand tools and polishing machinesUsing abrasives, polishing compounds, and buffing wheelsInspecting surfaces to ensure quality standards are metReading and following technical drawings or work instructionsCleaning and maintaining tools and equipmentAdhering to health and safety guidelines and ergonomic practices
