This role is responsible for leading performance engagement and driving performance improvement within the company and in partnership with key suppliers. There will be daily engagement and interface with responsible managers across EMR network to support performance improvement and to ensure improvement plans are developed, tracked, and implemented.East Midlands Railway operates a joint performance team with Network Rail East Midlands Route which provides a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with industry partners and to develop a broad range of skills and experience. This is an exciting time to get involved with performance management, as improving punctuality of services is a clear priority for both customers and stakeholders.In this role, you will:
- Lead performance activities with internal and external parties in focusing on real-time performance improvement, identifying areas of concern and developing plans to drive efficiency.
- Focus on engaging with Network Rail and industry partners to gather feedback on issues affecting performance and explore mitigations.
- Leads and supports the successful delivery of key performance improvement and risk mitigation plans.
- Partner with EMR functions, Network Rail (NR), and other train operators, working to facilitate the sharing of ideas and best practices, establishing methods of tracking performance delivery which are engaging at all levels in the business, and influencing leaders through constructive challenge.
- Lead local performance sessions within your area, responsible not only for identifying themes and opportunities but also for translating them into tangible outcomes. Produce local performance plans which are fully embedded locally, through data led insight from delay attribution and local knowledge of performance risks.
- Create a collaborative working space across all functions to share best practices and identify functional interventions to minimise operational performance impacts.
- To support the functional teams in developing and embedding their local performance improvement plans which enables active monitoring of departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and financial and management controls to ensure alignment with, and contribution to EMR and NR business and safety plans, industry safety standards, and national legislation.
- Guide and influence continuous improvement in train service performance and reduce costs through optimisation of resources and more efficient working practices. Using tools such Risk Management Maturity model which are designed to understand organisational maturity.
- Form effective partnerships with Network Rail and other operators to ensure optimum performance delivery.
- Prioritisation of competing demands within the role and escalate issues when appropriate.
About you:
- You will have good railway geographical knowledge and an understanding of performance management and how performance indicators can be used to drive change and improvements.
- You will have strong communication skills and be comfortable engaging with colleagues throughout all areas of EMR and across a range of external stakeholders. You will represent EMR and/or Network Rail at a range of industry forums, and have the ability to engage, influence, and inspire colleagues and industry partners.
- You will be able to communicate outputs clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally.
- You will have the capability to learn and make effective use of railway IT systems including TRUST, Arrakis, Intergrale, Compass, Aegis, Quartz, and the capability to build knowledge of current railway legislation and Railway Group Standards including GE/RT3000 – Rule Book.
- This position is based in our control centre (EMCC) in Derby for team collaboration and working, the role is predominantly based on EMR network working at locations that EMR serve, along with the opportunity to work in your way at home creating a flexible hybrid working model.
