About the positionPosition as PhD Research Fellow in Formal Methods and Software Engineering available at the Department of Informatics.No one can be appointed for more than one PhD Research Fellowship period at the University of Oslo. Starting date no later than October 1, 2025.The fellowship period is three (3) years.An extension of the appointment by up to twelve months may be considered, which will be devoted to career-enhancing compulsory work duties, e.g. teaching or supervision. This will be dependent on the qualifications of the applicant and the specific teaching needs of the department.Job descriptionAre you interested in a PhD in the field of formal methods and software engineering and curious about digital twins? In this PhD position, you will conduct cutting-edge research in these areas. You will learn state-of-the-art techniques in formal methods and software engineering and apply them to high-impact use cases such as digital twins. Further, you will develop new techniques that enable the application in interdisciplinary scenarios.Potential candidates should have an interest in model-based design and analysis techniques. They will apply and develop formal methods and software engineering techniques in a digital twin context. The PhD candidate will work closely with experts from different research areas. The candidate will acquire complex analysis skills for interdisciplinary problem scenarios. This will enable publications at prestigious conferences and in scientific journals. Therefore, this position opens great opportunities for a future career in academia and industry.The PhD position is conducted at the very active, internationally oriented research group at the Department of Informatics, which works on digital twin solutions from the perspective of software engineering and formal methods. The group provides a vibrant and collaborative research environment with a strong commitment to research excellence. This position is ideal for applicants interested in logic, formal descriptions, software engineering, and programming. The position is funded by the project “A Digital Twin for Vaccination Strategies at Geographic Scale”, in which we collaborate with world-leading researchers in epidemiology and vaccine development.
