The research addresses issues relevant to both the healthcare sector and society at large.We are looking for a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering Sciences in the field of biological systems modeling and deep learningYour work assignmentsYour task as a PhD student will be to conduct research in the field of biological systems modeling and deep learning to investigate how impaired microcirculation contributes to the development of cardiovascular diseases.You will work independently to develop mechanistic models that describe dynamic processes of the microcirculation and analyze large data sets using statistics and deep learning to investigate the relationship between blood vessel function and cardiovascular disease, with the goal of developing new markers for cardiovascular disease.As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.Your qualificationsYou have graduated at Master’s level in Biomedical Engineering or related area or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses in Biomedical Engineering. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.Specific eligibility for doctoral education in Biomedical Engineering Science is granted to those who have completed course requirements of at least 60 higher education credits at an advanced level in a field relevant to the doctoral subject. The applicant must also be able to demonstrate documented proficiency in English.You should have documented experience in mathematical modeling of biological systems or in deep learning/machine learning, from education or previous positions. Experience in both of these areas is meriting for the position. You should also have an interest in clinical related work.You should have documented experience in programming with MATLAB, python or similar. Further, you are a person with a good ability to work both independently and in groups. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.Your workplaceYou will work at the Department of Biomedical Engineering (IMT) at Linköping University. The department carries out research, undergraduate and postgraduate education within biomedical engineering. We collaborate with healthcare clinics as well as engineers in industry, creating a diverse and exciting environment alongside our international colleagues and visiting students. Our location at Campus US within Linköping University provides a strong opportunity for research and development in this field.The employmentWhen taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available at and within the subject areaThe employment has a duration of four years’ full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out.
