Job description
Our customer, a leading provider of bespoke Industrial Automation solutions for Aviation applications are seeking a skilled PLC Engineer to join their growing engineering team. This full-time, hybrid position involves developing and commissioning PLC-controlled Automation systems, with regular travel across the UK and internationally.You’ll work on cutting-edge material handling systems designed specifically for Aviation environments, collaborating with cross-functional teams and playing a key role in delivering high-performance, scalable solutions.Key Responsibilities:Technical / Operational
- Design and develop PLC-controlled material handling systems, including hardware selection and software programming
- Configure managed switches (VLANs, access control, redundancy, etc.)
- Diagnose and resolve integration issues in the field
- Support installation and commissioning engineers
- Document PLC code and system configurations
- Stay current on emerging PLC and automation technologies
- Provide end-user training on system maintenance and troubleshooting
Project & Time Management
- Deliver tasks in line with project timelines and deliverables
- Contribute to regular internal reporting and progress updates
Communication & Collaboration
- Liaise with internal teams, stakeholders, and external clients
- Present project status clearly and professionally
- Coordinate effectively during project delivery phases
Teamwork & Cross-Functional Integration
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and support teams
- Engage stakeholders (clients, subcontractors, internal departments)
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to company and site-specific HSE procedures
- Ensure health & safety compliance during installations and site work
Requirements:Essential Skills & Attributes
- Strong background in PLC and automation systems
- Proficiency in electrical engineering and system troubleshooting
- Excellent documentation and technical interpretation skills
- Strong communication, organisation, and time-management
- Ability to work under pressure in dynamic environments
Desirable
- Experience with Siemens toolsets
- Familiarity with E-Plan
- Exposure to sectors such as automotive or aerospace
- Previous leadership of mechanical/materials handling projects
Qualifications
- HND or higher in Automation, Controls, or Electrical Engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline preferred
Expected salary
£70000 per year
