A 2½-year position as postdoc is available at the Work, Environment and Cancer group at the Danish Cancer Institute.The positionThe Work, Environment and Cancer research group is a dynamic team of researchers dedicated to studying the effects of environmental and occupational exposures on the development of cancer and other diseases.You will be involved in the EU-funded research project, Markopolo, which is a large international consortium project aiming to study the health effects of air pollution and traffic noise.We will contribute to the project by conducting an epidemiological study on effects of air pollution, traffic noise and other pollutants on risk of cardiovascular and other diseases based on the entire Danish population. We have already established information on long-term exposure to several air pollutants and traffic noise for all residents. To enable development of an exposure model for estimation of ultrafine particles, we will furthermore conduct a measuring campaign in Denmark, where we will measure ultrafine particles across two seasons (app. 2 weeks in each season) using a car with measuring equipment.You will contribute to the success of Markopolo by applying your experience in project leadership, alongside your strong epidemiological and analytical skills.Your main responsibilities will be to:

• Coordinate the measuring campaign in Denmark in collaboration with researchers from Switzerland and Lithuania
• Link Danish addresses to satellite data on light at night and green space
• Generate final datasets with data on air pollution, traffic noise and other environmental exposures, diseases and potential confounders for the Danish population
• Conduct statistical analyses of the relationship between environmental pollutants and risk of cardiovascular and other diseases
• Write scientific papers for international peer-reviewed journals
• Participate and present results at Markopolo consortium meetings

The project is a collaboration between several European research institutions, which besides the Danish Cancer Institute counts Aarhus University, Swiss TPH, Johannes Gutenberg University (Germany), Cyprus Institute, and others.QualificationsThe qualified applicant has a MSc in Public Health, Health Informatics, Human Biology or similar education. The candidate must have a PhD degree in which focus has been on epidemiology.It is essential that you have a solid experience with quantitative epidemiological research and can handle, build and clean large datasets as well as conduct statistical analyses, preferably in SAS or R.Documented experience in writing and publishing scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals is essential.We expect you to work independently and to have experience in leading projects, with strong skills in organizing, planning, collaboration and communication.Having a driving-license valid in Denmark together with good technical understanding and/or experience with measuring air pollution is an advantage. Also, experience with GIS programs, such as QGIS, is an advantage.We offerAn inspiring and dynamic working environment in an interdisciplinary research center (biologists, human biologists, public health scientists, doctors, data managers, psychologists, statisticians, etc.) where we work with many different epidemiological and biological topics. The research department regularly hosts interdisciplinary seminars with external lecturers on biological and epidemiological research areas and internal courses on relevant topics. Also, we have a postdoc network, which arranges regular meetings and seminars.The position is a 2½-year full-time position and is open from August 1st 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.Salary, pension, and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish government and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).
