Your overall focus will be to develop and engineer microbial strains-primarily yeast, but also other organisms-for the production of high-value bioactives and the development of microbial therapeutics for health applications. The project has a strong entrepreneurial focus, aiming to establish the scientific and technical foundation for a future spinout. You will work closely with interdisciplinary researchers at DTU Biosustain and collaborate with both internal innovation teams and external partners.Your primary tasks will be to:

• Design and construct novel microbial strains using synthetic biology tools
• Apply genome engineering to improve strain performance
• Conduct and optimize fermentation experiments for strain characterization
• Document research for patenting and publication purposes
• Collaborate with entrepreneurial teams to assess commercial potential
• Contribute to grant writing and project development

Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong background in microbial biotechnology, synthetic biology, or metabolic engineering. You must hold a PhD in a relevant field and have proven experience in microbial strain engineering. Strong hands-on skills in molecular biology, genetic manipulation, and fermentation are essential. Experience with enzyme production is an advantage. The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.The position is a full-time postdoctoral appointment starting on 1 August 2025 (or according to mutual agreement).
