We are an international community of bold thinkers who shape a sustainable future with education, research breakthroughs and innovative ideas and solutions.Are you excited about creating an international business from research in the field of optoelectronics?Aalto University Innovation Services is now looking for aPre-business Developer for a future deep tech start-upBusiness Finland’s Research to Business (R2B) funding is intended for public research organizations for projects in which research groups and researchers aim to develop their research into new business and to commercialize their research results. We are looking for business minded person with entrepreneurial mindset to join a team of research experts in the field of optoelectronics from the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering and bring commercialization expertise into the team. Our novel quantum photodetector operates using a fundamentally different physical mechanism compared to existing devices. This invention will revolutionise industry of photodetectors. The project aims to apply for Business Finland R2B funding in application call 2/2025. The application phase intended to start in August 2025. If the project gets funded, it will start earliest in January 2026.What will you doYou help the team to determinate the business potential by validating the need and identifying potential market size and customer value. You study competing solutions and map out different commercialization options e.g. start-up establishment.The application process includes a brief presentation of the project to Business Finland’s specialists and preparation and submission of the R2B funding application.What we offerWe offer a possibility to create a business from research in an international environment. You’ll get the support of the research team, mentors, Aalto Innovation Services, Aalto Startup Center and the active Aalto community.The case is currently planning to apply for the R2B funding in the call 2/2025. If the project gets funded there is an option to be employed by Aalto University as a business developer for the duration of the project. R2B projects typically last 1 1/2 years. The position can be either full-time or part-time depending on your skills and role. After the project, there is a possibility that you could become co-founder of the new deep tech startup as a CEO or Business Director.Who are we looking for?We are looking for a business minded person with entrepreneurial mindset. Experience in optoelectronics industry would be beneficial, but you don’t need to be an expert in optoelectronics industry, but you share the genuine interest to build a commercial business of a superb deep tech startup.. We have the technology experts; you bring the business drive.What we value?

• Fluency in English
• Experience and proven track record in business development, commercialization entrepreneurship and/or startups
• Ability to work with people from different backgrounds
• Excellent teamwork, negotiation and communications skills
