Hydro, as a world leader within aluminium production technology, endlessly pushes the performance of the electrolysis technology towards world-leading low energy consumption and environmental footprint. The challenging work to develop, qualify and manage such technology is the responsibility of TOS. In Årdal, TOS has full-scale testing facilities as well as laboratories where we can bring ideas, theory, and academic knowledge into technological solutions.This position is within the Digital Production Support department, process control team. We focus on cross functional Product Teams, DevOps and agile methodology to deliver value from digital transformation in the production area.Work location: Øvre ÅrdalAreas of responsibilities / role:In the process control team, you are part of an interdisciplinary collaboration developing world leading smelter technology. You combine academic knowledge with a practical hands-on approach and use the breadth of your competence to engineer industrial control systems for the next generation smelter technology seeking a carbon neutral future.As a process control specialist, you work on optimizing existing control system solutions, improving on both software and hardware as well as developing new concepts and ideas into prototypes. When matured, you will implement the solutions to production lines. You will become close with the whole stack from utilizing sensors, motors, actuators, electromechanical and pneumatic components, automation systems, and even touching upon OT/IT gateways and cloud solutions.What we offer you

Your qualifications and skillsTo enjoy this role it is recommended that you have a strong foundation and professional background within the automation area, either with experience in developing digital solutions or newly graduated. It is a role the challenges your creativity within user-friendly solutions.

  • University degree (Phd, Masters or bachelor degree) within Cybernetics, Control engineering, Automation, Mechatronics or similar.
  • Competence with estimator techniques, model-based control system and software development methods for real-time and embedded systems.
  • Strong skills within embedded systems, PLC programming and HMI development.
  • Knowledge within programming languages such as C/C++ and/or Java.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Profibus, ProfiNet, Ethernet/IPand OPC UA- Creative, innovative, and curious with well-developed problem-solving skills.
  • Structured, practical, and systematic with attention to detail.
  • Capacity to work independently and under pressure, while sharing competence andissues with the team.
  • Work in teams and collaborate across the organization.- Good communication and cooperation skills.
  • Fluent in Norwegian and English, orally and written.
  • Flexible with respect to travelling in connection with operational support assignments at our plants, both in Norway and abroad.
  • Relevant experience can compensate for formal education.
