  • You will develop an innovative and clinically oriented research program of international standing in the field of neurorehabilitation, with a focus on rehabilitation technology for children and adults with complex, advanced neurological disorders.
  • You will publish at the highest scientific level, secure funding for fundamental/applied research, establish international collaborations, and supervise doctorates of international caliber.
  • You will build your own network of collaborations, with particular attention to partnerships with institutions and hospitals both within and outside the region.
  • You are capable of acquiring competitive funding for the research you conduct, which enables you to supervise master’s theses and doctoral students.
  • You place strong emphasis on the translation and valorization of research into industry or healthcare practice.
  • You will provide high-quality education within the first two phases of the academic Bachelor’s program in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy in Bruges, primarily in courses related to physiotherapy training components, rehabilitation technology, and research methodology. You may also be asked to contribute, based on your specific expertise, to (English-taught) education at the Leuven campus, particularly in the Master’s program or possibly in a postgraduate program.
  • You will contribute to the faculty’s educational mission through the supervision of Master’s theses and as a promoter of doctoral students.
  • You will develop your teaching in line with KU Leuven’s vision of active and research-based education and will make use of the educational professional development opportunities offered by the faculty and the university.
  • You are willing to engage in scientific, societal, and internal service, such as active participation in the Council of the Group of Biomedical Sciences at the Bruges Campus and the program committee at the Bruges Campus. This service is primarily focused on the needs of the Bruges campus.
  • You are also prepared to take on leadership roles, if requested, that contribute to the advancement of the field of rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy.
  • Clinical service or societal engagement in the context of neurorehabilitation and rehabilitation technology may also be part of your responsibilities.
  • You hold a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy and a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy, or an equivalent degree with a relevant doctoral topic in neurorehabilitation.
  • You have an excellent research record in the field of neurorehabilitation, specifically in rehabilitation technology. The quality of your research is evidenced by publications in leading international journals, and preferably also by international research experience.
  • You have demonstrable qualities for academic teaching, with experience in teaching within an academic program and/or having completed training sessions for lecturers being considered an asset.
  • You have clinical expertise in the domain of neurorehabilitation that enables you to enhance clinically oriented teaching in physiotherapy and rehabilitation sciences.
  • You possess organizational skills and exhibit leadership capabilities in an academic research context. You are proactive in contributing to the academic development of the Bruges campus. You are collegial in your attitude.
  • Proficiency in English is required.

Before teaching courses in Dutch or English, you will be given the opportunity to learn Dutch, respectively English, to the required standard.
