Job Description:Professional & Organisational Development AdvisorLocation: EdinburghGrade 5: £26,038 – £30,505Post: Fixed Term 12 monthsAs part of the Human Resources directorate, the purpose of the Professional & Organisational Development (POD) team is to support the transformation of individuals, teams and the University community by influencing and encouraging colleagues to fully engage in their work and take an active role in developing themselves and their careers to be the best they can be.As part of the Human Resources directorate, the purpose of the Professional & Organisational Development (POD) team is to support the transformation of individuals, teams and the University community by influencing and encouraging colleagues to fully engage in their work and take an active role in developing themselves and their careers to be the best they can be. The POD team:

  • Works closely with colleagues to build strong and effective leadership and management capability by encouraging and embedding good practice.
  • Working with leaders to deliver on strategic initiatives and to shape the University’s culture, encouraging all colleagues to adopt a values-led approach across our global community.
  • Encourages ownership of active learning and development of all colleagues through a range of learning methods.
  • Supports the development of individuals, teams and the University culture.
  • Creates development solutions, including frameworks, tools and skills that underpin good organisational practice and encourage innovation.
  • Works closely with the University leadership community to build strong organisational capability through our people.
  • Works strategically across the University on organisation wide initiatives to shape culture, drive effective change and influence behaviours to bring to life the University’s values and Respect agenda.

Due to an internal promotion, an opportunity has arisen for a motivated, self-starting individual to work in a busy team supporting development of our people and Heriot-Watt University as a whole. The individual will have the opportunity to contribute to the exciting projects the team are involved in as well as to manage and co-ordinate the Development Programmes POD runs. The role contributes significantly toward the University’s realisation of its strategic intent and cultural aspirations through direct involvement in supporting a commitment to lifelong and life wide learning, promoting inclusive and confident leadership, supporting empowered line managers and engaged and motivated colleagues. This is an exciting role with the opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop a career in Organisational Development or Learning and Development.Summary of key duties and responsibilities:

  • To manage the co-ordination and implementation of the University’s global talent plan and programmes, and in some cases facilitate events (development will be provided)
  • To provide customer focused communications and marketing of all talent development activities.
  • Contribute to, and on occasion, lead on POD projects.
  • To provide operational administrative support to the activities across the POD team.

Below are the criteria on which short-listing and recruitment selection will be based.Essential1. Educated to SCQF Level 6 (Highers) or similar equivalent experience2. Excellent customer service ethos3. Well-developed interpersonal skills including written and spoken English4. Professional, confidential and proactive approach at all times5. Ability to work quickly, flexibly and accurately in a dynamic, changing and pressured environment6. Well-developed planning and organisational skills to be able to self-manage a busy workload7. Experience in organising and managing events8. Experience of working within a similar environment as outlined above8. Proficient and active learner in digital skills, able to use relevant digital applications (e.g. O365 suite including Teams, SharePoint authoring, Online Forms, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Padlet, Canva etc. with a keen interest to learn and research new digital ways of working to support a high level of customer service, efficiency and effectiveness.Desirable1. CIPD Certificate in Learning & Development Practice or CIPD Certificate in HR Practice or equivalent.2. Experience in a learning and development environment working with individuals or groups on their personal development e.g. mentoring, coaching or facilitation3. Knowledge of Oracle Fusion4. Experience in generation and analysis of data, record management and reporting5.
