The Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit (SHA) brings together a pool of experts who are available to the Swiss government’s Humanitarian Aid for missions abroad. Humanitarian Aid is a branch of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), which is part of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). The SHA Unit includes over 600 specialists split in different expert groups according to their knowledge and skills, and deploys them in humanitarian crises for assignments varying from a few weeks to several years.Facing increasing requests to deploy Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) experts, the SHA wishes to strengthen its expert group on DRR, Environment and Climate.This present position is particularly for young professionals in Disaster Risk Reduction with little or no experience abroad, who meet the below mentioned requirements for this position and are interested in joining the SHA. He or she will have the opportunity to acquire international experience in the field of humanitarian aid and development cooperation during a first deployment under the supervision of an experienced SHA member in SDC’s Regional Hub Lima, Peru.The Regional Hub Lima is in charge of a regional portfolio, currently with 14 projects in the field of climate change, water and disaster risk reduction. In addition, the Hub is also in charge for rapid response intervention in the Latin America and the Caribbean region.Main objective: The primary goal is to offer to the new SHA Member the opportunity to expand his/her professional skills during a 12-months deployment at the SDC’s Regional Hub in Lima, Peru and to support the Hub in the implementation of its Programme 2025-2028.Main tasks:Programme
Support the Regional Hub in the design/implementation/monitoring of DRR projects and in mainstreaming Climate Change and DRR in the whole portfolio.
Support the links with Swiss expertise and DRR projects.Policy Dialogue
Support the Regional Hub in networking with government and regional entities, NGOs, academic institutions as SDC partner organizations in the region.Advisory Services
Offer thematic advisory services in DRR to selected projects and offices (tbd).Knowledge Management
Elaborate, promote and disseminate knowledge management products of good practices and lessons learnt, ideally jointly with the other junior in Venezuela.Rapid Response
Support the Hub in updating important instruments and documents related to the GIAR (Grupo de Intervención y Apoyo Rápido) in the region.

University degree in environmental science (natural resources management, geography, geology, agronomy, forestry, rural engineer) or equivalent qualification with experience in disaster management/prevention and knowledge of key DRR and CCA concepts.– Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Disaster Risk Reduction, ideally also in Rapid Response.

Social and personal skills: sound general knowledge, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to lead and find solutions. Good physical and mental endurance. Flexibility and adaptability, able to work autonomously and in a team.
Language: good knowledge of at least two national languages and a passive knowledge of the third; good knowledge of English and ideally good knowledge of Spanish.– Ready for regular travel in the region, including Rapid Response assignments.
– Swiss citizenship (or Liechtenstein) or holder of a valid Swiss work permit (C).
