Project manager optical transceiver circuits and systemsWhat you will doImec has a long-standing expertise in optical interconnect technologies. Our research team is globally recognized for pioneering advancements in optical transceiver circuit and system design, consistently pushing the boundaries of innovation. To support our ambition to continuously elevate our operational excellence, we are looking for a project manager to join our Project Management Office (PMO) team. Within this team of project managers, you will lead research projects focusing on optical transceiver circuit and system design. Relevant technical background is required.

• You drive your projects to completion within the agreed time, cost, and scope parameters while maximizing the value of the project outcomes. You utilize appropriate verification techniques to manage these parameters, address issues, and escalate them when necessary. You measure and steer project performance using suitable systems, tools, and techniques. Additionally, you ensure that comprehensive project documentation and reports are generated, and you organize project reporting and follow-up/tracking in collaboration with project sponsors and key stakeholders.
• As a member of our sector PMO team, you contribute to the development, deployment, and governance of best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of project and project-portfolio management. You share management knowledge and learnings with your peers, extend your expertise, and mentor and coach others. You act as a constructive team member and actively participate in imec’s project management community.
• You represent your projects adequately to all key stakeholders, both internally (within imec’s matrix structure) and externally (customers, partners, funding agencies). Strong communication and interaction skills are essential for this role.
• You are familiar with optical transceiver circuit and system design and are confident in discussing technical issues with the engineering teams. You leverage your technical competence to report credibly and qualitatively to all key stakeholders with the appropriate level of detail.
• You keep abreast of industry trends and imec’s positioning in optical interconnects.
• You monitor opportunities for publicly funded programs and related proposal initiatives, while ensuring alignment with the sector strategy and program roadmap on optical interconnects and beyond.
• Your projects are typically executed within the international setting of imec. You will travel regularly between imec HQ in Leuven and the imec-IDLab university group at Ghent University, therefore you can choose one of these locations as your primary working place. You will handle the enterprise complexity across the different imec entities and structures.

• You hold a PhD or MSc in microelectronics, electrical engineering, physics, applied physics, or equivalent.
• You have 5+ years of experience in the semiconductor field, and you have technical knowledge on photonics. You are passionate about technology and can quickly grasp the essence of technical discussions.
• You have 3+ years in a coordinating role. You have experience in R&D project management, leading and following up on projects with multiple partners in a structured and methodological way. You enjoy supporting teams in reaching their objectives.
• You have a strong drive and operational acumen, along with solid organizational skills, including attention to detail and multi-tasking abilities.
• You are an enthusiastic team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills and are fluent in English. You are diplomatic and able to easily interact with management, researchers, and administrative staff.
• You have a positive mindset and an “always improving” mentality.
• You are willing to work in a dynamic, collaborative and multicultural environment.
