Research Assistant in computational materials science
Aalborg Universitet
JobbeskrivelseDo you want to work with sustainable materials and curious about how advanced mathematics can help us better understand complex materials? And do you see yourself as a team player who is strong in collaboration? If yes, we look forward to reading your application to our position as Research Assistant.
At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a position as Research Assistant in computational materials science is open for appointment from 15th August 2025 or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of 3 and a half months.Your work tasks
This position is part of the Independent Research Fund Denmark project titled “Deciphering Nanoporosity of Amorphous Materials using Topological Data Analysis”. The project explores how innovative mathematical approaches, specifically tools from topology, can be applied to study the structure and properties of disordered materials. The project is a joint research project between the Department of Chemistry and Bioscience and the Department of Mathematical Sciences, so an interest in working across disciplines is essential.
The research will involve developing new methods that combine mathematical tools such as persistent homology and max-flow algorithms with high-throughput simulations of diffusion in disordered materials. Together with a collaborative team, these techniques will be used to help design next-generation disordered solid electrolytes, an important step toward improved battery technologies and a carbon-neutral future.
As a Research Assistant, you’ll join the Glass Structure and Mechanics Group, led by Professor Morten Mattrup Smedskjær, within the Section of Disordered Materials. The group offers a vibrant research environment, featuring cutting-edge computational and experimental facilities and strong interdisciplinary collaboration.Your Competencies
