About the positionWe are seeking a Science Advisor with a background in Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) mitigation with a focus on antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), and infection, prevention and control (IPC). The Science Advisor will be responsible for – together with the members of the ICARS team – the development and management of ICARS’ portfolio of projects with Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).In order to achieve and document results of projects, the Science Advisor will be instrumental in ensuring sound project implementation strategies, effective scoping of projects, clear setting of targets and deliverables, taking into account behavioural and economic consequences of AMR mitigation in all One Health sectors.Furthermore, the Science Advisor must contribute professionally to the dissemination of ICARS’ vision, mission and goals. For example, this can be by representing ICARS at meetings with multiple stakeholders, building a global network of experts and contributing to the production of independent evidence synthesis, assessments, and reports in relation to AMR.This is a permanent full-time position based in Copenhagen, Denmark.This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to AMR mitigation at the science-policy interface and collaborate closely with project teams in LMICs. You will be part of an inspiring team of more than 40 highly skilled experts representing more than 20 different nationalities.The ICARS office is in a nice campus area, close to public transport and the centre of Copenhagen.Primary tasks and expectationsAs a Science Advisor you are expected to:

• Develop and advise on research study designs for baseline studies to identify the AMS, IPC and AMR priorities, primarily in human health
• Develop and advise country partners on interventions using intervention and implementation approaches, which contextualize and test intervention impact
• Provide expert input into development and implementation of ICARS projects
• Identify external experts to develop and deliver capacity building initiatives on quality improvement for AMS and IPC in health facilities, and evaluating economic impact of AMR interventions
• Contribute to internal projects and processes at ICARS, including process development, and synthesis, analysis and assimilation of data into reports and publications
• Write and deliver independent evidence syntheses, publications, and reports within the AMR area
• Continuously monitor scientific research on AMR-mitigation relevant to ICARS
• Identify and contribute to grant applications for funding
• Contribute to technical reporting requirements for ICARS external donors
• Represent ICARS at technical project working groups or boards as well as at conferences, workshops and networking events
• Be the primary contact point for LMICs partners in co-development of projects with ICARS
• Build a global network of external experts and partners to strengthen the knowledge of behavioural and economic implications of interventions related to AMR
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders, researchers and policy makers for efficient AMR mitigation
• Complete administrative and project management tasks as required for project development and implementation in line with ICARS processes.

You must also be ready to travel as necessary for the purposes of providing on-site support to project teams in LMICs, and to nurture, build and maintain networks of relationships with researchers, advisors and consultants for the purpose of delivering ICARS’ priorities.Education and professional experience

• Advanced degree with MD, DVM, PhD either in infectious diseases, medicine, public health, pharmacology or similar areas of study or quivalent work experience in the field of implementation research and AMR mitigation
• Minimum 5 years professional experience after graduation in advising and/or developing projects related to AMR mitigation including AMS and IPC
• Demonstrated experience in conducting intervention and implementation research including using advanced research methods
• Experience in project management including planning, resourcing, allocating budget, monitoring and reporting
• Knowledge on evidence compilation such as systematic reviews and meta-analysis
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize information conveying key points clearly and concisely
• Experience in cross-sector/One Health research is desirable
• Training in field epidemiology is an advantage
• Demonstrated experience working with or in LMICs
• Experience in initiating and maintaining partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders
• Excellent command of written and spoken English (English is the ICARS working language)
• Knowledge of Arabic, French, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish are considered an advantage.

Terms of employmentThe employment terms and conditions will be based on the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the relevant, negotiable trade union, depending on the candidate’s educational background, with anticipated classification as Special Consultant. Special Consultant is considered as a mid-level rank in the academic collective agreement framework. Employment terms includes – among other benefits – a base salary, supplements depending on qualifications and a pension scheme.As previously mentioned, the workplace is in Copenhagen, Denmark.
