Offer DescriptionN.º 062/2024OPEN CALL FOR RESEARCH GRANT APPLICATION WITHIN THE TERMS LAID DOWN OF THE REGULATIONS FOR RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ALGARVETITLE: Research grant for a bachelorIt is now open a call for one Research Grant within the project I&D 10EX00002 – Fundo de Investimento em I&D UALG with the following conditions:Research Field: EngineeringAdmission Requirements: Bachelor in Chemical Engineering with advanced knowledge in the urban water cycle and particularly in desalination processes.Work Plan: To carry out the field work on Culatra Island to optimise the solar desalination prototype; to conduct laboratory tests at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia to control the desalination process; to monitor the processes and collect the relevant data for analysis; to contribute to the preparation of the final report of the project under the supervision of the teachers and researchers of the project team; to participate in the writing of a scientific article. The aim of the project is to optimise the solar desalination prototype installed on the Culatra Island for the production of fresh water from seawater, adjusting its size to improve the efficiency of the process, so that it can be replicated in different locations on this island, but also in other island and coastal territorial contexts.Applicable legislation and regulations: Statute of the Scientific Research Fellow, approved by Law nº 40/2004, of August 18, in the current wording conferred by Decree-Law nº 123/2019, of August 28 and the Regulation for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology ( ).Working place: The work will be carried out at the Institute of Engineering – University of the Algarve under the scientific supervision of Professor Manuela Fernanda Gomes Moreira da Silva, and on Culatra Island under the supervision of Professor Cláudia Sequeira and Dr Vânia Sousa.Duration of the grant: The grant will have a first contract of 10 months duration, beginning on January 2025. The contract can be renewed until the end of the project considering Regulation for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology ( ).Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The monthly maintenance allowance corresponds to 990,98. euros. The maintenance allowance will be paid monthly by bank transfer.Selection criteria will be as follows: In accordance with nº2 of the article 11º of the FCT Research Grants Regulation, candidates will only be assessed on the basis of their Curriculum Vitae (100%). The evaluation of the CV will be based on the following criteria: absolute merit of the CV (85%), advanced knowledge on the urban water cycle and particularly of desalination processes, English skills (10%), and computer applications skills for data analysis (5%). The jury reserves the right to call for a personal interview if there are candidates whose CVs are questionable or if there are similar assessments of the candidates.The evaluation process may include one interview, to all or some candidates selected by the panel, weighting a maximum of 20% of the total score.The tender jury shall comprise the following members:– Professor Manuela Moreira da Silva (President), Coordinating Professor, Department of Civil Engineering;– Professor Cláudia Sequeira (Effective Member), Adjunct Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering;– Dr Vânia Sousa, (Effective member), PhD Researcher, Department of Earth, Sea and Environmental Sciences;-Professor Jânio Monteiro (Substitute Member), Adjunct Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.Publication and notification of the results: Final results will be publicized through an ordered list according to the final grade and posted in a conspicuous and public local of Intitute Enginering main building and communicated to the applicants by e-mail to the addresses indicated by each candidate.Deadline for applications and submission forms: the call is open from 25/12/2024 to 10/01/2025.Applications must be accompanied by the following documents:Official identification document (simple copy or legal equivalent). If you have a nationality other than Portuguese, you should present a residence permit, permanent residence certificate or long-term resident status, valid on the scholarship start date, any of which may be replaced, in its absence, by a declaration of commitment. However, one of the previous must be delivered at the contracting phase, under penalty of forfeiture of the granting of the scholarship;Copy of the qualification certificates of the academic degrees held, specifying the final classification and, if possible, the classifications obtained in all subjects taken;If the doctorate has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must conform to the rules established in Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of August 16, and all required formalities must be complied with up to the date of termination deadline for submission of the application. If the completed process is not found until the end of the application deadline, the candidate must prove that he / she has requested the recognition of the degree.Curriculum Vitae;Passport or identification card for European applicants (copy);Taxpayer Identification Number (NIF), if you have a nationality other than Portuguese, it must be submitted during the scholarship contracting phase, under penalty of forfeiture of the scholarship award;Other documents considered importantThe Application Request, dated and signed, must be addressed to the President of the Evaluation Panel ( ).for the following address: Universidade do Algarve.
