Akvaplan-niva is seeking a visionary Section Manager for our newly established section, “Ocean Observations and Environment.”About us
Akvaplan-niva is a leading organization in the use of autonomous technology for environmental research and monitoring. We utilize underwater robots, drones, and other autonomous platforms to collect data in coastal and marine areas. Our innovative approaches enable efficient and environmentally friendly ecosystem mapping, monitoring of human impacts, and studies on the effects of climate change on the marine environment.Our various sensor-bearing platforms collect large amounts of data. We are seeking a Section Manager to develop groundbreaking projects that leverage marine robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) technology to monitor and address environmental challenges.At Akvaplan-niva, you will join a strong and creative professional community at the forefront of technological innovation for promoting environmental sustainability.   • Lead a team of experts in developing groundbreaking projects combining marine robotics and AI technology.
  • Contribute to company strategy as a member of our extended management team.
  • Collaborate closely with the “Ocean Technology” section.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Personnel management and facilitation of professional and personal development.
  • Strategic leadership and development of the section, focusing on quality, efficiency, and financial performance.
  • Secure project funding and drive the growth of the section.
  • Monitor technological trends and adapt the section’s work to future needs of the public and private sectors.
  • Ensure ethical research practices in AI and environmental studies.
  • Represent the organization in relevant forums and build networks with research communities, clients, authorities, and other national and international partners.
  • Actively participate in research and advisory projects relevant to your expertise.

Qualifications

  • Higher education in environmental science, environmental informatics, or other relevant fields.
  • Experience in leadership and project management, preferably within research or advisory services.
  • Experience in project development, working closely with industry, state institutions, and the research community.
  • Background in robotics and AI applications.
  • Ability to build relationships and work across disciplines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in Norwegian is an advantage.
