The position is affiliated with a part time position as Professor II SKO 1013 /Associate Professor SKO 1011 (20 % position) in Medicine (Breast and Endocrine Surgery) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). In addition to Breast and Endocrine surgery the department consist of sections for gynaecological, gastrointestinal, urological and orthopedic cancers as well as oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery. The scope of the department is highly specialized surgery including multidisciplinary surgical teams. KRE also includes the fields of hematology, oncology, medical physics, clinical service, and two research institutes.The Radium Hospital location of OUS has 10 operating theaters including three separate robots for minimal invasive surgery. In addition the hospital has 16 linear accelerators and two brachytherapy treatment units. This involves more than 7,000 treatment series and more than 100,000 radiotherapy sessions annually. From the first quarter of 2025, we will start proton therapy. Proton therapy will be a multi-regional function shared with Health Bergen. The medical cancer treatment covers all types of treatments and includes CAR-T, high-dose treatment with autologous stem cell support, other continuous medical treatments, and extensive outpatient activities.The department has a broad scientific production, publishing 120-150 scientific articles annually in recent years. The cancer research environment at OUS supports translational research in line with the CCC concept and has close collaboration with the Institute of Cancer Research. There is also extensive clinical research and patient-oriented research in the department. There is a separate section for clinical cancer research and competence development, which includes a trial unit for early testing of treatments.The department is entering a period of significant changes. We will start using the new hospital at the Radium Hospital, begin proton therapy, and the main part of oncological surgery at OUS was consolidated at the Radium Hospital during the first quarter of 2025. We have increasing engagement in Europe, and the department will participate in major EU initiatives related to the Cancer Mission and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.Short description of work tasks for the senior consultant position:

• Contribute to routine clinical activities in the Breast and Endocrine surgical consultant team and participate in all aspects of treatment and follow-up of adult patients with breast and thyroid malignancies.

• Contribute to improve the standard of care for adult-onset breast and thyroid malignancies with the ambition to position the Unit at a high international level in clinical management of this heterogeneous and difficult-to-treat patient group.

• Contribute to better integration of clinical activities and research.

• Opportunity to participate in the Unit’s on call system for consultants.

• Contribute to continuing medical education by taking on teaching tasks at the Unit, at the Hospital and, when indicated, at relevant external meetings.

• Contribute to educational activities organized by the Unit for the benefit of patients, relatives, and the public.
• Contribute to quality improvement activities.

Qualification requirements – education and relevant personal:

• The applicant must possess a Norwegian accepted specialist accreditation in surgery.

• The applicant must have clinical expertise on the Breast and Endocrine surgical sub-speciality.

• The applicant must have relevant research experience and a strong motivation to contribute to ongoing and future research activities related to the relevant patient populations.

• Documented language skills in Norwegian or a compatible Scandinavian language is required. Applicants must be able to teach and communicate with patients in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish.

• The applicant must have the prerequisites to develop a unit that is leading in its field. This means that the applicant must be motivating and unifying, can think holistically, and show integrity.
